BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on May 23, 2022, in Municipal Building, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Thomas Bartholomew Mayor Schoch Bryon Reed Daniel Stevens Joseph Wechsler (via phone) Justin Gross Jeffrey Hausman PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY Jeffrey Hausman - Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Bryon Reed 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Hausman would like to hire 2 part-time seasonal employees for the Highway Department to help with mowing and weeding. This would give the highway crew more time to complete other projects. Councilor Hausman would like to have the committee meet with the Highway Department supervisor, with no more than 3 councilors total, to discuss daily projects that must be completed. Councilor Reed will talk with a perspective employee to see if he would be interested in mowing for the Borough. b. Councilor Hausman asked if there are grants available to fix roads. He also proposed the possibility of floating a bond. Manager Stevens stated floating bond would be a good idea, if it were coupled with a matching grant. The committee discussed options for repairing roads, i.e., working with Walnutport Borough, infrastructure programs. Councilor Reed stated that he has contacted the DCED and was informed that there is a local share account and state share account, this is the casino money. The Lehigh and Northampton Counties shares are coming up in June. He was informed that these could be put in for anything. Councilor Reed suggested that we could use the local share to apply for storm sewer on Shadow Oaks Lane and then possibly piggyback on to the multimodal. C. Chamber Foundation grant for "Welcome to Slatington" sign was submitted by Manager Stevens. (informational only) d. Public meeting for Walnut Street bridge replacement project Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, at the Vigilant Fire Company from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM is for public officials' presentation, and then from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM is open to the public. Being no further questions from the committee members, and sO the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler - Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Jeffrey Hausman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Sewer Plant will make permit for this month (informational only) 1 I Councilor Reed asked about the PA Small Water and Sewer grant to be used for the digester lid. Manager Stevens informed the committee that the information from Fred Ebert was not received. Manager Stevens will contact Fred Ebert again. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was adjourned. C. WATERISPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE Bryon Reed - Chairman; Members: Jeffrey Hausman, Joseph Wechsler 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Reed had mentioned talking with the DCED in the Highway Committee and provided information that we could do a PA Small Water and Sewer grant. The committee discussed waterlines which could be replaced with this grant. Being no further questions from the committee members, and SO the Water/Special Sewer Committee Meeting was adjourned. D.
