BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Regular Board Meeting January 16, 2025 - MINUTES STATE OF TEXAS - COUNTY OF MONTAGUE CITY OF BOWIE On this 16th day of] January, 2025 the Community Development Board of Directors convened fora regular board meeting. Presiding: Jamie Rodden Members: Debbie Halbrook, Mildred McCraw, Donna Ballew Executive Director: Cindy Roller City Liaison: Mayor Gaylynn Burris Absent: Sylvia Henning, Vickie Howard Mecting was çalled to order by Board President Jamie Rodden at 5:05 p.m. OLD Business 1. No previous meeting minutes presented. 2. Cindy Roller gave an update on the current funds for the façade improvement grants with recent approval at 703 Decatur Street, Bowie, Texas. 3. The Board volunteers reviewed the Christmas parade and details. It was agreed we need more volunteers to help along the route, especially at the two stages to slow the route flow so announcing may happen along with shortened descriptions offloats. Possibly guide flashlights and portable stop signs (see if we can borrow from TxDOT or Strect Department). Mayor requested magnets or signage for her vehicle as an official parade vehicle. Look into getting different award signage as magnets are not sticking to newer vehicies possibly vehicle clings. Emphasis with all entry participants that NO candy shall be thrown during this parade since iti is dark and for safety of all. This event will be a rain or shine event. The Board is excited about the 2025 theme Make a Joyful Noise Christmas Songs. Jamie Rodden suggested hiring carolers dressed in vintage apparel to perform for Sip & Stroll to coordinate with the theme. Mildred McCraw encouraged reaching out to the bell choir at the Methodist Church for the pre-parade entertainment She suggested contacting Jarae Scruggs for bell choir. Winning the Candy Cane Sip storefront contest was: People's Choice first place - Rustic Wings/Belle Rose Boutique, second place - Rustic Rose Furniture & Treasures, third place - Studio 81 tattoos, and fourth place - Hwy 59 Multivendor Boutique. It was suggested the board incorporates judges for monetary awards for Fall and Christmas storefront contests as well as hosting a People's Choice online. Everyone agreed this would improve response and fairness. The Board voted to have a judge's award with $250 for first place. It was: suggested that three anonymous judges would pick their top 5 to determine the winner. NEW Business 1. The Board discussed the 2025 calendar, Those are (but aren't limited to) quarterly Sip & Stroll with me events on Friday, March 14 St Patty's Sip, Friday, May 2 Mom's Night Out Sip, pre-Chicken and Bread Days Sip Friday, October 3, and Christmas Songs Sip Friday, December 5, 2025, downtown Bowie, Texas from 5 to 81 p.m. Participating in the Red River Valley Tourism Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale June 6-7 and October 3-4; July Jam fiddling on Saturday, July 26, BAEA /BCD/BISD presents Amon! The Ultimate Texan play on weekend of August 22, Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival (30ti Annual) on Saturday, October 4 (with bass tournament date. still in discussion tentatively Saturday, October 11), Hanging ofthe Greens on Saturday, November 15, Pink Friday Shop Small on Friday, November: 21, Blue Saturday Shop Small on November 29 and Fantasy ofLights Christmas Festival and Lighted Parade on Saturday, December 6, 2025 with Make a Joyful Noise - Christmas Songs theme. The board also is looking into bringing back Outdoor Movie Night perhaps at Pelham Park or hosting for those at Independence Hall. 2. Bowie Community Development will be honoring White's Magneto and Supply with the Texas Treasure Business Award at the next City Council meeting. The next deadline to enter a submission is May 1, 2025. 3. The Board reviewed Matt Hunt's application. Jamie Rodden motioned to accept and seconded by Debbie Halbrook. No objection was approved by the Board. Other potential board member names were also suggested.
