City of Midway City Council Meeting Minutes December 18, 2023 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Brenda Ford The Invocation was given Councilman Marc Nelson with Mayor Ford leading the Pledge. Those in attendance included Mayor Brenda Ford, City Secretary Debra Newkirk, Council members Rex Newkirk, John Whitmire, Gus Kangos, and Marc Nelson. Janet Boone, Wes Savage and JoeDan Boone were also in attendance. Councilwoman Brandee Curtis was unable to attend. Guest in attendance was Tim Spear with Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM). Gus Kangos made the motion to accept the Consent Agenda, Marc Nelson made the second and with all present being in agreement the motion passed. There were no public comments regarding the agenda. The winners ofthe annual Christmas Decorating Contest, held in conjunction with Keep Madison County Beautiful, were announced. First Place and winner of a $75 Wal-Mart gift card was Jamie Douglas; 2nd Place and winner of a $50 Wal-Mart gift card was Ashley Johnson; and 3rd Place and winner of a $25 Wal-Mart Gift Card was Crystal Dodson. The first item before the Council was a re-visit ofthe quote from AT&T. The City currently pays approximately $290/month for phone service. Ifthe City elected to go with this upgrade from AT&T, the most immediate savings would be approximately $50/month or approximately $600/annually. The City would receive new equipment, training and the savings. This would continue for 5 years. At the end of 53 years, the cost would decrease from approximately $250/month to $63/month with this amount being guaranteed for 1 year. Upon the next renewal, cost could even be lower. Rex Newkirk made the motion to approve going ahead with the change, Marc Nelson made the second and with all present being in agreement the motion carried. The second item before the Council was the renewal of our lease with UBEO for the printers in the office. Keeping the same printers, our monthly renewal rate would be approximately $108.00/month. Gus Kangos made the motion to approve the renewal oft the lease, Rex Newkirk made the second and with all being in agreement the motion carried. Debra Newkirk respectfully asked that the last item to be discussed, a quote for labor law posters, be removed from the agenda as the price stated on the quote to be discussed is not the same as the price quoted over the phone. Reports were, given at this time. Janet Boone let the Council know that all the power has been situated at the lagoon. There is still some small amount of work that ACE Electric will be doing for approximately $2,016.00; this included work to the control panel box and a breaker. TCEQ had collected some additional information such as MSDS Sheets; finding of the water being slightly corrosive out of the storage tank and we are still awaiting an answer. Wes Savage informed the Council that all of the lift stations have received their updated alarm systems and that everything is working fine.
