Ivan Aguirre, Calimesa Librarian PUBLIC COMMENT: None APPROVAL OF MINUTES a. December 3, 2024 action minutes of Special Meeting. MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ANDREWS, SECONDED BY VICE-CHAIRPERSON PETTIFORD, CARRIED 5-0 TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF DECEMBER 3, 2024 AS PRESENTED. Library staff provided stats to the City as follows: Calimesa Library JANUARY 2025 Patron visits 2,399 Computer Sessions Onsite 192 Computer Session Wireless 463 Item Checkouts 2,430 Program JANUARY 2025 Children's Programs 5/76 Adult Programs 8/58 Passive Programs 2/305 Volunteer Hours 13/27 BUSINESS ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION Annual Commission Reorganization: There was a Commissioner request to leave the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson as is. MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ANDREWS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER SABA, CARRIED 5-0 TO LEAVE DEBORAH ZYLMAN AS THE CHAIRPERSON AND ROBERT PETTIFORD AS THE VICE-CHAIRPERSON FOR 2025. Monthly Budget Update: Deputy City Manager/City Clerk Gerdes provided a budget update through January 31, 2025, reporting a fund balance of $392,720, Giving Tree Balance of $28,613 Book Sales Balance of $16,247 Friends of the Library Balance of Library Commission Action Minutes for the Regular Meeting of February 4, 2025 Page 1 of 2 $36,916 and Jim Hyatt Memorial Balance of $2,047 with total funds available of $476,543. Revenues to date of $53,642 and expenditures to date of $21,641. The Library Fund Development Impact Fee Balance is $1,234,484. Deputy City Manager/City Clerk Gerdes provided information of each of the funds in an effort to provide newly appointed Commissioner Julie Saba with the historical background of various Library funds. THERE WAS COMMISSION CONSENSUS TO APPROVE THE MONTHLY BUDGET UPDATE AS PRESENTED. YHS 2025 Scholarships: Deputy City Manager/City Clerk Gerdes requested that the Commission provide direction regarding the number of scholarships to give, the amount of each scholarship and the required qualifications of each applicant. There was Commission consensus to leave the scholarship program as it is with the award of three (3) $1,000 scholarships and the preference of the applicant being a Calimesa resident and in the study of liberal arts and education. Update and discussion of Library Improvement Project: Deputy City Manager/City Clerk Gerdes reported that construction continues, and much progress had been made. There was no further information available regarding the project.
