Officers continue to patrol and are staying active in our community policing efforts. I want to thank all officers for a job well done, and their continued efforts to maintain a safe and secure community. Not much time has passed since my last report; I have no major issues to report. I am working with an applicant for the open Police Officer position, to catch up on past in-service training. When these steps are completed a conditional offer of employment will be offered to the applicant. After working shifts, and many extra weekends due to staffing shortage, I look to take some vacation time in April. Officer Brown will be moved from the split shift to day shift for a few months starting in April while we try to fill our open position. In the coming months I will cover shifts for officers to take their vacations. On 02/16/2025 Chief Turbyfill and Officer Brown responded to a domestic violence situation at the Scotchman Store. Chief Turbyfill and Officer Brown located a male subject walking on NC 184 that matched the suspect's description. During the investigation, it was found that the male subject assaulted a female while traveling in a vehicle on NC105. The male subject was found to have a firearm in his backpack, after further investigation Officers found that the male suspect is a convicted felon. The male subject was arrested for assault on a female and possession of a firearm by a felon. On 2/20/2025 Chief Turbyfill and Officer Linkous worked four traffic accidents due to slick road conditions. Thankfully no injuries were reported. On 2/21/2024, Officer Brown investigated a vehicle accident near 106 Sugar Mountain Drive. During the investigation, Officer Brown found that a vehicle crossed the center line and caused the collision. The driver of that vehicle was charged with left of center, reckless driving, and driving while license revoked. On 3/4/2024 Officer Clark and Officer Brown responded to Sugar Mountain Resort at the request of resort security. Officers found that a male subject had refused to vacate the property, after being asked to multiple times by staff. The male subject was arrested for second-degree trespassing.
