MINUTES CITY OF AMES, TEXAS 304 MARTIN DR. REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING MAY9, 2022 6:00 p.m. The City Council for the City of Ames, Texas met in a regular meeting in council chambers at the Ames City Hall at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Cornelius Gilmore call the meeting to order at that time. Mayor Gilmore led the prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Mayor Gilmore did the roll call, at that time the members of the City Council who were present are: Mayor Cornelius Gilmore, Michael Trahan, Eddie White, and Audrey Harrison. Absent were Barbara Domain and Carlton Rollins. CITIZEN APPREARANCE Mayor Gilmore thanked the citizens for being here and to please silence your phones. A list of attending citizens is attached. MINUTES Mayor Gilmore asked for the reading of the minutes. The minutes for April 11, 2022 Regular City Council Meeting minutes were read, motioned on, and approved unanimously. REGULAR SESSION 2022-01 - DISCUSS TRAFFIC CONTROLON! FM 16 NORTH - MR. GERAL HICKS. Mr. Gerald Hicks wanted to discuss traffic control on FM 160 North; he stated that big 18 wheelers, motorcycles and cars drive SO fast going and coming from the Raywood direction. He wanted to know what could be done or perhaps speed bumps could be installed to at least slow down the traffic. Mayor Gilmore stated that this was a state highway and that this issue has come up several times before and that there was nothing he could do about this issue; he stated that he would have to take this up with TXDOT. LANITA HALE, WITH 2020 SHINING STARTS - WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS WITH THE CITY OF AMES HAVING A FOOD BANK STORE AND THE BENEFITS OF IT. Ms. Lanita Hale wanted to introduce herself to the Mayor and City Council. She wanted to let them know that her organization was here to help the citizens of Ames; she wanted to see where they could locate a freezer for food storage and other dry items that will be coming to Ames in the following months. Mayor Gilmore thanked her and Ms. Mallet for their services. No further discussion on this item was needed. There was no discussion on this item because the Fire Department did not appear. Motioned by: Councilman Audrey Harrison Seconded by: Councilman Michael Trahan All in favor: 0 Opposed: 0 Abstained: 0 2022-04 - CONSIDER AND APPROVE PURCHASING THE REST OF THE DEROUEN PROPERTY AT MLK NORTH FOR $15,000. Councilwoman Harrison wanted additional information on this property before a decision could be made. Mayor Gilmore stated that Ms. Derouen wants to sale all ofher property located in here in Ames that this is close to an acre located off FM 160 North. Motion was made to postpone this item. Motioned by: Councilwoman Audrey Harrison Seconded by: Councilman Michael Trahan All in favor: 3 Opposed: 0 Abstained: 0 2022-05 - CONSIDER AND APPROVE BUYING A GRADING BUCKET FOR THE EXCAVATOR FOR THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT TO BE PAID OUT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS ACCOUNT. Mayor Gilmore wants to the city to consider buying a grading bucket for the excavator for the maintenance department for the purpose of digging sewer lines without having to damage water lines. This item was postponed for further discussion. Motion was made to postpone this item. All were in favor and passed unanimously. This item was read, there were no discussion to reimburse Mayor Gilmore $200.00 for security. Motion was made to pay this invoice, all in favor and passed unanimously. We are going to need businesses in order for our community to grow.
