MINUTES CITY OF AMES, TEXAS AMES CITY COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 14, 2021 6:00 PM The City Council of the City of Ames, Texas, met in a regular meeting on June 14, 2021 at p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Ames City Hall, to consider the following 6:00 Mayor Gilmore called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Cornelius Gilmore lead agenda with items. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call was made. In attendance were prayer Eddie White, Carlton (Reggie) Rollins, Audrey Harrison. Absent: Barbara Domain Michael Trahan, CITIZEN APPEARANCE: MINUTES: Given to Council Members and read in silence. A copy oft the minutes was to Mayor Gilmore for his signature. given MOTIONED BY: Councilman White SECONDED BY: Councilman Rollins ALL IN FAVOR: Yes (4) 2021-01 = SWAIM, BRENTS AND ASSOCIATES: 2019 ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT Ms. Suzanne with Swaim, Brents and Associates gave a detailed independent audit for the fiscal year ending December 2019. She stated there are controls in place to catch report made some suggestions: (1) to thoroughly document everything anything wrong; need to get monthly reports; and (3) get the budget done and approved you by do; Council (2) Council Members Members. David Papillion suggestion was to get into a workshop and approve a budget. 2021-02 - KATHY SMART: PINEY WOODS SANITATION Ms. Smart just wanted to introduce herself to the council and see if they had or concerns, issues. She stated that heavy pick up is once a month. Bills for Piney Woods any questions, are paid up. 2021-03: DISCUSS DIGGING INNER CITY DITCHES, SPECIFICALLY ON BEROTTE DR. Discussion was made that there is a drainage problem on Berotte Road and need aqua ducts. There is about a foot of rain coming up into homes, which is why the ditches need to be dugged out and aqua ducts installed. Problem with Jeff Smith needs to be inspected. MOTIONED BY: Councilman Rollins SECOND BY: Councilman White ALL IN FAVOR: Yes (4) 2021-04: DISCUSS ADOPTING A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THE CITY OF AMES Discussion was made to press forward with adopting a Building Permit for the City of Ames. There first needs to be an Ordinance adopted, approved, and voted on by City Council. Matthew Gott, Attorney, mentioned that authority has to be taken from Liberty County. Gott and the Mayor Gilmore will discuss this further. MOTIONED BY: Councilman Rollins SECONDED BY: Councilman White ALL IN FAVOR: YES (4) 2021-05: DISCUSS THE RENT HOMES ON SYLPHEME STREET Discussion was made to adopt an ordinance regarding tiny homes with no less that 800 sq. ft. and with egress and ingress to be legal; discussion was also made to set subdivision standards or re- visit the ordinance already in place. Homes on Sylpheme St. was mentioned because of the ones already in place, but not to allow anymore tiny homes or cabins into subdivisions in the future. MOTIONED BY: Councilman Trahan SECONDED BY: Councilman Rolllins ALL IN FAVOR: YES (4) 2021-06: COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT MEETINGS Discussion was made on how Liberty County Commissioners Court have meetings every two (2) weeks; how things are getting done and things get approved without further discussions; will ask Commissioner Karbowski how much ofhis budget he has spent on the City of Ames; there were grants that the City of Ames could have gotten but did not apply for; suggested that some of the Ames City Council go to the Liberty County Commissioners meetings. MOTIONED BY: Councilman Rolllins SECONDED BY: Councilman White ALL IN FAVOR: YES (4) 2021-07: DISCUSS REQUIRING THE WATER COMPANY TO PURCHASE PERMITS Discussion was made regarding people in general would like to move to the City of Ames, with that thought in mind suggestion was to have Ames-Minglewood Water Department purchase a permit every time they start digging for any new residence or any residence that need sewer services. Will draft a letter to go out to the Water Department. MOTIONED BY: Councilman White SECONDED BY: Councilman Rollins ALL IN FAVOR: YES (3) COUNCIL MEMBERS COMMENTS There were no comments made.
