TOWN OF SEDALIA Planning Board Meeting Sedalia Town Hall- - 6121 Burlington Road September 19th, 2024 Meeting Agenda Call to Order: Made at 7:00pm Marian Jeffries, Vice Chair Prayer and Meditation: Pledge of Allegiance: Roll Call: Jay Riehle, Vice Chair Marian Jeffries, Brenda Walker, Alfred Walker ** Remote participants please mute your microphones if you are not speaking. In person comments & questions from the floor must be stated from the handheld mic ** A. MOTION to approve the agenda Planning Board Jay Riehle proposed an amendment to the agenda that Section II: Closed Session be moved to the end of the agenda sO that the Planning Board can execute all of the other items on the agenda before being dismissed for the Closed Session between the Town Council and the Town Attorney. Alfred Walker made a motion to approve the amendment, the motion was seconded by' Vice Chair Marion Jeffries. Motion carried. B. MOTION to approve the minutes of the August Planning Board Meeting Planning Board Jay Riehle announced that the minutes from the previous Planning Board meeting had been forwarded to the Board Members and he saw no changes needed and recommended that the Board approve the minutes as they are written. Brenda Walker made a motion to approve the minutes, the motion was seconded by' Vice Chair Marion Jeffries. Motion carried. C. GUEST/REPORIS/DISCUSSIONS I. Vote to recommend Jay Riehle as new Planning Board Chair Vice Chair Marion Jeffries brought to the board the recommendation that current member Jay Riehle be promoted to Chair of the Planning Board. Jay has served on as a member on the Planning Board since. July 2023 and has been a great addition to the Board. Alfred Walker made a motion to approve the recommendation of. Jay Riehle as the Planning Board Chair to be sent to the Town Council for final approval. Brenda Walker seconded the motion. Motion Carried. II. Vote to recommend Tyler Thomas as new Planning Board Member Vice Chair Marion brought to the board the recommendation that Tyler Thomas be recommended to the Town Council as the new Planning Board Member. Tyler introduced himself, he has a background in Construction Management, his degree was obtained at NC A&T State University. Tyler currently works for a Commercial Real Estate Firm as a Project Manager. Tyler and his wife, Ashley are in the process of building a home here in Sedalia. Vice Chair Marion Jeffries noted that with Tyler's background the board felt he would be a good fit and make a great addition to the Planning Board. They are excited to recommend him to the Town Council. Mayor Pro Tem Serita Faison asked if Tyler would be recommended as a fulltime member or an alternate member? Vice Chair Marion Jeffries stated that they are looking to replace the fulltime member position at this time and in thei future will seek to bring in another candidate as an alternative member. Vice Chair Marion Jeffries went over the schedule for Planning Board meetings and the next steps in the process of appointing new Planning Board members which would be that a formal recommendation would be drawn up and submitted to the to the Town Council for approval. Once approved by the Town Council the members would be sworn in. Alfred Walker made the motion to approve the recommendation of Tyler Thomas to the Town Council to become a new Planning Board member. Jay Riehle seconded the motion. Motion carried. III. CLOSED SESSION Consult with the Attorney to consider and give instructions concerning a potential or actual claim, administrative procedure, or judicial action [N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(3) D. Sedalia Fun Fest Saturday September 28th,2024 from 12pm-5pm The next Town Hall Agenda meeting will be held on September 30th, 2024 Ther next Town Hall meeting will be held October 7th, 2024 Falll Litter Sweep Saturday October 12th,2024 at 9am The next Planning Board meeting will be held on October 17th, 2024 Meeting adjourned at 7:15pm, Planning Board and all attendees were dismissed, except fort the Town Council, Sedalia Staff and the Town Attorney.
