CITY MANAGERS REPORT City Manager Chi noted the increased volume of questions from members of the public related to the Los Angeles County fires, and subsequently introduced Bobby Simmons, Manager of Emergency Services, who provided a brief overview of the City's wildfire City Council discussion included: noting ongoing efforts to update evacuation and preparedness plans; referenced prior wildfire evacuations and outcomes in the City; expressed appreciation to firefighters, police officers, and other first responders; noted concerns related to insurance implications; suggested improving accessibility of information on the City website and enhancing community engagement; and reiterated preparedness efforts. the importance of preparedness by residents. Councilmember Treseder Councimember Treseder provided an update on the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), which includes a setup of weekly meetings with Chief Executive Officer Joe Mosca and City Manager Chi to facilitate communication. OCPA will begin moving Irvine's 100% Renewable Choice customers to Basic Choice on February 1and will finish on February 28, and OCPA customers have been notified oft the transition via e-mail. OCPA began sending out mail notifications on January 10. OCPA will send a secondary notification mailer to customers after February Southern California Edison (SCE) anticipates reducing its generation rate price by approximately 8% this year. The generation rate price reduction will be countered bya a 43% increase in the power charge and difference adjustment. Based on this information, OCPA anticipates that there will be no change in its rate structure for the upcoming year. OCPA anticipates that it will be able to keep the 3% discount on generation rates for Basic Choice customers in comparison to SCE, but not associated fees. Smart Choice customers will pay one cent more per kilowatt hour than Basic Choice and 100% Renewable Choice customers will pay 1.5 cents more per kilowatt hour. These rates will be discussed at the next meeting of the OCPA Board of Directors on January 22 at the OCPA main facility. 28 and subsequent mailer 30 days later. Councilmember Liu Councilmember Liu's office is preparing care packages to show appreciation to Orange County Fire Authority firefighters and hand crews. Members of the public interested in assisting with this effort are invited to visit Councilmember Liu's Instagram or Facebook pages, where she will post the wish lists for these packages; and assist to conclude preparation prior to the Day of Service. Councilmember Carroll Councimember Carroll expressed his sympathy to everyone affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles County, and announced that he would be requesting a presentation by City staff, the OCFA division fire chief, Irvine Chief of Police, Southern California Edison (SCE), and other organizations at an upcoming City Council meeting related to fire prevention efforts in the open spaces on the northern and southern spheres of the City, including the potential use of goats to eat and limit the overgrowth of brush and weeds; SCE's efforts to stop power transmission during days of high fire danger; and the Irvine Police Department's efforts in the successful evacuation of one-third of the City's population during the Councimember Carroll is seeking involvement in a brush-clearing event in coordination with community organizations in response to the request of some Silverado Fire. Turtle Rock residents to clear brush themselves.
