Advises on overall preparation, response, and recovery ini the event of an emergency, both natural and manmade, to promote community safety and support local safety officials. Addresses issues, recommends actions, identifies risks and recommends communication channels to promote emergency preparedness awareness. Meets every two weeks at 03:00 p.m. Beautification (Meredith Hynes, liaison). Leads upkeep of public properties, with emphasis onl landscaping and horticulture. Also focuses on the health oft the. James River andi its watershed. Plans and executes cleanup, repair, and improvements to alli town parks andi the streetscape. Recruits volunteers, fundraises, and solicits donations, and plans workdays. Meetings focus on project planning and workinggatherings should bet frequent the first Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Economic Development (Ron Smith, liaison). Promotes the town to support business growth. Establishes conditions conducive to a robust climate for local businesses. Attracts appropriate new businesses to town. Member activities mayi include meetings with current and prospective business owners, review of Town regulations, and planning projects. Activities also include business appreciation events andi field research such as surveys. This committee also oversees and works with the town's Market Manager to operate the weekly farmers' market, recruit vendors, andi increase the volume of business activity at the pavilion. Supports special events at the market. Meets as needed. Events & Tourism (Alex Bessette, liaison). Coordinates and executes town-sponsored cultural events, strives tor maintain event information on the Scottsville website and social media pages, and promotes tourism for the greater Scottsville area. Meets with different Government Services (Bill Hyson/Eddie Payne, liaison). Advises on the regulations, routines, and resources needed for efficient operation of the town office and communication with the public. Includes oversight oft town web-site maintenance, maintenance of public spaces, streets, sidewalks, public parking, water and sewer utilities, fire and rescue: service, thei town police and police auxiliary, and ADA compliance. Committee members may' work in close liaison with VDOT: and other state and local agencies. The committee may also support volunteer recruitment and community outreach. Meetings mayi focus on specific capital improvement projects related to infrastructure, public safety, human resources, finance and contracts, information technology, and organizational development. Meets monthly, on the first Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Planning Commission (Dan Gritsko, liaison). Required by state law' "in orderi to promote the orderly development oft the locality andi its environs." Conducts research on land use, maintains the zoning ordinance, and consults with property owners during development and construction. The commission votes on applications for zoning changes, but pers state law, "the local planning commissions shall serve primarily in an advisory capacity to the governing bodies" (515.2-2210). Meets monthly, on the first Monday at 7:00 p.m. Parks and Rec Committee (Bill Hyson, liaison). Plans and oversees cleanup, repair, and improvements to alli town parks. Makes recommendations on coordination, efficiency, safety and quality ofl local park and recreation facilities and programs. Works closely with the citizens to understand their needs and desires relating to parks and recreation. Meets frequency dependent on need. monthly, on thei first Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
