Snyder; and City Attorney J. Graham Corriher. ABSENT: None. Salisbury City Council met in Council Chambers in City Hall located at 217 South Main Street. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield at 6:00 p.m. A moment of silence was taken. Thereupon, Councilmember Post made a motion to adopt the Consent Agenda as presented. Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield, and Councilmembers Jackson, McLaughlin and Post voted AYE. (4-0) HONORING MAYOR KAREN K. ALEXNADER Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield referenced the passing of Mayor Karen K. Alexander on December 29, 2024. She noted Mayor Alexanderl left a great legacy in the City she loved SO dearly and she will be greatly missed. A video was played in honor of! Mayor Alexander. Salisbury City Council January 6, 2025 Page 4 Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield opened the floor to Council who expressed its sincere appreciation to Mayor Alexander for her service to the City and for the legacy she leaves behind. Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield commented Mayor Alexander's passing is a tremendous loss to Council and the City. She then opened the floor to City Manager Jim Greene, City Attorney Graham Corriher, City Clerk Connie Snyder, staffand the audience forat time ofs sharingand: remembrance. Senior Administrative Specialist Atalie Bare noted the many accomplshments of Mayor Alexander including chairing the Historic Preservation Commission, working on the Innes Street Vision Committee, and playing key roles on the Salisbury 2020 Implementation Task Force, the Park Avenuel Neighborhood Plan Committee, the Community Development Corporation, the Land Development Ordinance Committee, and the Planning Board. She added Mayor Alexander was appointed to Council in 2013 serving as mayorin 2015and councilmember in 2017. She indicated Mayor Alexander resumed the mayor's seat in 2019 until her passing. She stated before she joined Council Mayor Alexander's influence was evident across the City as she conceptualized the Hall Gym renovations, coordinated the Police Department expansion, and oversaw the construction of Fire Station 4 and the Customer Service Center leaving a lasting impact that will shape the City for generations to come. Members of Mayor Alexander'si family attended the meeting including her husband Henry, Mayor Alexander left a lasting legacy and imprint on the City. She will be dearly missed. son Daniel Almazon and wife Christy, and Dr. William Mason and wife Patty. PUBLIC COMMENT Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield opened the floor to receive public comment. There being no one to address Council, Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield closed the public comment session. MAYOR PROTEM COMMENTS Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield thanked Mayor Alexander's family for giving the City an opportunity to grieve and remember Mayor Alexander'sextonimany life and service to the City. (a) Memorial for Mayor Karen K. Alexander Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield announced the City will host a memorial in honor of Mayor Alexander on Monday, January the 13th at 5:30 p.m. at Bell Tower Green. Jr. Celebration Weekend Mayor Pro Tem Sheffield announced the Human Relations Commission will host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Saturday, January 18th through Monday, January 20",2025. The weekend kicks off with aj parade Saturday, January 18th at 11:00a a.m. followed by aCommunity Resource Fair from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30p.m. at the Civic Center. Thel Martin Luther King breakfast will take place Monday, January 20th at 8:30 a.m. at the Civic Center. Admission to the breakfast is free, but registration is required.
