399 BROWNWOOD AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LUNCHEON City Council January 17, 2025 The City Council oft the City of Brownwood, Texas, was invited to attend the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon tol hear aj presentation by Mayor, Stephen Haynes- Annual State of the City Report at the Brownwood Event Center, 601 East Baker, Brownwood, Texas, where a quorum ofthe City Council was present. The Council did not deliberate or take any action. Those in attendance were Mayor Stephen Haynes; Councilmember Ward 2, Ed McMillian; Councilmember Ward 3, Melody Nowowiejski; and Councilmember Ward 4,1 Draco A. Miller; and various City ofBrownwood Department Heads and staff. Council members HD Jones and Walker Willey were not present. The Mayor presented the annual State of the City address and discussed sales tax, the job market, Brownwood Municipal Development District incentives, Public Improvement Districts (PID) and housing growth to come, Downtown Master Plan and planned projects, Park improvements at Riverside Park Phase I and II, Alcorn Park and Coggin Park, and spoke about Airport renovations. He invited everyone to attend the newly renovated Brownwood/Brown County Health Department open house on January 29th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. He announced that the City received a $1.5 Million dollar grant to be used to renovate the Bennie Houston Center, and another grant to replace and automate all the Mayor Haynes discussed retail growth and announced new businesses coming to Commerce Square (Ulta Beauty, Bath and Body Works, Five Below, Ross, and James Avery).
