The additional staffing has allowed staff to conduct follow up inspections and work with residents to abate violations. With dedicated staff to follow up on complaints and issue stop work orders, residents have been contacting staff about potential projects and obtaining approvals and permits before starting work. Over the last year the Code Enforcement Division received 28 code enforcement complaints, closed 51 code enforcement complaints, issued 51 stop work orders and closed 64 unpermitted construction. Staff has been working hard to reduce the back log of cases and work to resolve new complaints faster by working closely with residents on helping them understand the steps needed to resolve the violation. Staff has been diligently addressing the backlog of cases and is approaching a point where the assistance of a specialized legal service may be necessary to ensure compliance. In the past, the City has used the services of a specialized law firm to assist with code Staff released a request for a proposal for city prosecutor services for the Code Enforcement Division. Three firms that submitted proposal and included the relevant enforcement compliance. experience handling code enforcement cases.
