FISCALI IMPACT: BACKGROUND: No additional fiscal impacts at this time. With a wrap on the holidays and having been here in this position for a full year now Ihave a pretty good assessment oft the events and programs that are successful, as well as an idea of what is not as successful. With this information II have begun planning for Spring & Summer. Ihave also put together al list of projects that I think will be beneficial to the success of our programs. A Calendar of Events, and a Calendar of Programs are being created. The calendars will be listed on our website and distributed in the monthly newsletters tol help make the community aware of programs and events in the upcoming months. Here is an outline of what to expect. DISCUSSION: EVENTS Monday, March 17th-1 Leprechaun Hunt (new event) Friday, May 30th-N Movie Night Saturday, June 7th_-1 Pool Opening Day Friday. June 27th - Movie Night at the Pool (date may change) Monday, June gth- Friday, August 1st- Swim lessons Monday, June 16th-1 Thursday, July 24th- Camp Ione PROGRAMS Friday, August 29th - Friday, October 17th Co-ed Softball (dates may change) Ihave included a list of projects that I believe will be beneficial to the community, and willl help our programs thrive and evolve. Each potential project or improvement will helpi increase our revenue. For instance; if we had lights at each field, or even two oft the fields we could expand our adult softball season. We would have the ability tol host more games later into fall which would allow us charge more per team, create a men's league, host tournaments, etc. Steps at the pool and improvements to the snack shack would also greatly increase our revenue potential. PRIORITY PROJECTS Pool- Steps or aj platform $10,000 Electrical outlets $1,000 Snack bar improvements $3,000 Small trees, soil, plants and gravel inj planter $1,500 Additional semi-permanent shade structures $1,000 Stadium lights at each baseball field TBD Soccer Field Improvements TBD Baseball Field Improvements TBD Howard Park- Other- Electrical outlets and string lights installed at City Hall and Train Park behind City Hall Electrical outlets, lighting and tree brackets at the Park n Ride and Bridge $3,000 $1,500 Basketball Courts at Perry Earl Park (In process) Completion ofTrain Depot Park (Inj process) OTHER PROJECTS Beautification of EB Hall Beautification of Heath Knoll Park Beautification to the Amphitheater" and "Picnic Hill" area at Howard Park New benches and tables at City Hall Train Park and Howard Park Dog Park Improvements and addition ofa a small dog park Pickleball Courts CITYOFIONE IONE, CA 95640 Agenda Item #H1 DATE: TO: FROM: JANUARY 28, 2025 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION SALINA MITCHELL, RECREATION COORDINATOR SUBJECT: BATTING CAGES AT HOWARD PARK RECOMMENDED ACTION: FISCALIMPACT: No fiscal impacts. BACKGROUND: Recommend City Council approve the addition of batting cages at Howard Park. Amador County Little League West (ACLLW) has a contract for exclusive use oft the fields at Howard Park from February 1st through July 315t ofeach year until 2034. Most improvements to the baseball facility have been made by ACLLW, and donations to the community from other organizations such as Rotary. The City has historically allowed such improvements be made within the Park. DISCUSSION: ACLLW has requested approval for the addition oft two batting cages at the baseball fields at Howard Park. They would like to construct two separate 15' x 70' non-motorized cages. These cages will be used for warm ups for the kids before they go to bat, as well as batting practice, etc. There is no fiscal obligation by the City as all: materials and labor will be donated or purchased by ACLLW. ACLLW would like to complete construction prior to opening day on March 29th, 2025. Aside from proper placement and quality materials and construction, Staff sees no reason In order to best serve the needs oft thel kids at game time, as well as maintain clear un-obstructed access points at both gates, maintain plenty of set-back of gravel roadways, and avoid the more populated areas such as snack bar and restrooms, Staff feels the cages should be constructed in two separate locations rather than side by side. We also need to remember that certain areas are In walking the fields with the ACLLW Field Superintendent we agree that one should be placed between fields one and four, alongside the fence line of field four. The second one should be placed between fields two and three, alongside the fence line offield three. These two positions why the addition of batting cages should not be approved. prone to flooding and puddling and these areas should be avoided as well. should allow for kids on any field close enough proximity while avoiding any oft the above- The plan is for two cages each with a concrete pad of 15'x 70' with a 12' cage surround. The concrete will be donated and installed by volunteers and the fencing materials and installation donated by Gideon Fencing. The Building Department has confirmed that no permit is required at this time. Should ACLLW decide to add electricity at al later date, aj permit will be needed at mentioned obstructions. that time.
