TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on December 2, 2024 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Russell Ipock and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Ipock. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Belrose made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Jones made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Comment. No Public Comments. VIII. Public Hearing. Leash Law. Mayor Braxton opened the public hearing. Kristen Jordan of 704 College Street thanked the board for considering a leash law but had a concern. She requested for an amendment to be made that would allow Alderman McMillen made a motion to close the public hearing. Motion was electronic deterrent devices. seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. Alderman McMillen made a motion to consider leash law as is. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones. Vote 2-3. Motion was denied. IX. Police Report was presented by Chief] Keys. Contact was made with the Vanceboro Fire Department. They will be assisting with our Christmas Tree lighting event. We have received multiple complaints regarding nuisance animals. I've put together an ordinance for the Town to review and potentially adopt sO we can enforce these concerns. Holidays are approaching, as a friendly reminder to our residents please take extra precautions to secure your vehicles, storage buildings, and any other valuable items. Opportunistic theft can often be prevented by ensuring doors are locked, windows are closed, and belongings are not Ieft in plain sight. Let's continue working together to make Vanceboro a safer place for everyone. Officer Sean Johnson has been a great asset to the Town since he started on November 20, 2023. I The board decided to revisit the nuisance animal ordinance at the next meeting. X. Mayor's Reports. The mayor thanked Anthony Caprara for his $2500 donation to the Police Department. Alderman Cannon has been an asset to this town, serving on the board, rescue squad, and Strawberry Festival committee. Thank you for your service. and Iwish you luck on your move to Smithfield. Wel have signed the contract with Utility Services for the new meters. In January we will bel having a pre- construction meeting. This is state of the art equipment that will benefit the customers and Town. Birthdays this month include Alderman Jones and Alderman Ipock. The Town Christmas party will be December 17th at Vera's at 6 pm. The Town Hall will be closed December 24th-26th in observance of Christmas. The next board meeting will be held January 6th. Recycling pick-up will be December 5th. This past Friday Christmas decorations were put up. The Christmas Tree lighting is this Thursday at 7 pm. Please attend. Annual ditch mowing and edging will be completed soon. I thank Alderman Belrose for securing the gate on White Street side. In the next couple weeks, the buffers will bej planted at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and limbs will be removed. Town Clerk Beverly Drake is away on acruise. Thanks to Assistant Clerk Brittany Mumford for keeping the ball rolling. Alderman McMillen thanked Alderman Cannon for his service. Mayor Braxton stated at the board planning meeting on January 14th Town goals, XV. 2025 Board of Alderman Meeting Schedule. Alderman Jones made a motion to adopt the 2025 Board of Alderman Schedule. Motion was seconded by. Alderman Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 5-0 appointments, and duties would be discussed. McMillen and carried. Vote 5-0. XVI. 2025 Holiday Schedule. Alderman Jordan made a motion to adopt the 2025 Holiday Schedule. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 5-0. XVII.
