Mifflintown Borough December 9, 2024 The borough council ofl Mifflintown met on this date ini the municipal building at 100 Cross Street, Mifflintown PA. The meeting was called to order by President Samuel Klinger at 7:00p. The following were in attendance; Richard Zimmerman Jr, Mark Turns Jr, Brian Baker, Karen Haas, Mayor McGinnis, Mark Aurand, maintenance; Zina Klinger, meters; Robin Saner, Sec/Ireasurer; and Randy Zimmerman, solicitor. Mercedes Winn from the Juniata Sentinel was Right after the Pledge of Allegiance an executive session was called at 7:05p first on a motion from Zimmerman, and second by Baker. At 7:20p the session was over and the regular meeting resumed 1st by a motion from Baker and 2nd by Zimmerman. Solicitor Randy Zimmerman presented to the council paperwork authorizing Payment No 8 -FINAL to be made. Amotion was made 1st by Haas and 2nd by Turns Jr. to authorize the of signing the ofthe contractor's Mark Aurand, maintenance reported to the council all the various projects he's been working on including loading up the cinders from the state shed and plowing; hanging the Christmas lights; installing rubber tread strips on the ramp outside the borough building; meeting with Zach Luke at the playground to look at the trees and deciding which ones needed to come down. After which he had Kyle Kint come in to give a quote for the ones that do. He will do 3 trees at $1500/tree. Council voted to have Kint cut down the trees with a motion made 1sby present also. Application for payment. Zimmerman and 2nd by Baker. Zina wrote 32 tickets for a total of$335 and collected $828.72 from the meters for a grand total of$1163.72 collected for the month ofNovember. The Christmas tree lighting is Sat. Dec. 14th Zimmerman made the motion to approve the minutes from the prior meeting followed by Baker 2nd. The treasurer's report was also approved on the motion from Klinger 1s'and Turns Jr 2nd. The borough council approved the reappointments ofJohn Shirk and Garrett Leiter to the Twin Boroughs Sanitary Authority Board. Motion was 1st made by Zimmerman and 2nd by Klinger. Saner will send a copy of the minutes to Sue Sieber at the Twin Boroughs for her records. The council also approved the 2025 budget on motion 1st made by Baker and 2nd by Klinger; thereby, Tax Resolution #2024-1 be ordained and enacted for the year 2025. There were no increases from last year. Endorsement of a resolution to designate April as Safe Digging Month was passed 1ston a motion by Zimmerman Jr and 2nd by Klinger. Exonerations were approved. Evaluations were done and raises of2.5% were agreed upon to start Jan. 1,2025. Baker made the 1st motion followed by Turns Jr 2nd. Also, Christmas bonuses of$100 each for the three employees was starting at 5:30p.. All are welcome. approved 15t by a motion from Turns Jr and 2nd by Zimmerman. Mayor McGinnis performed one wedding. No monetary gift was given. She talked to Adam Waite and he needs the names and phone numbers ofc council members to have at the 911 Center. Saner will get that ready and put on borough letterhead. Names and numbers to be included are Mayor McGinnis, Samuel Klinger, and Richard Zimmerman Jr. Council agreed to install more tread strips on the ramp outside to prevent falls. Saner reminded the council she will be out of the office from Jan 24 thru Feb2. She will work to make up those hours before she goes as well as when she gets back. Starting in January she will get 3 paid days ofvacation. Council approved for the bills to be paid motion 1st made by Turns Jr and 2nd by Klinger.
