NEWVILLE BOROUGH RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING MARCH15,2022 The regular monthly meeting of the Newville Borough Recreation Commission was held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 7:001 PM in the Newville Borough Office, 4 West Street, Newville, Pennsylvania. The meeting was called to order by Paster Christopher Faylor, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and ani invocation. The following members were present: Pastor Christopher Faylor, Joey Diehl, Kevin Yost, Sandy Brymesser, Mike Fry, Pastor Joe Kindon, Jody Hoffman, and Ed Sinkovitz. Absent were: Scott Penner and Matt Kump. New Business: The Newville Borough Recreation Commission will be opening a checking account at] F& M' Trust Bank. A motion was made by Mrs. Brymesser, seconded by Mrs. Diehl to appoint Ed Sinkovitz, Jody Hoffman and Sandy Brymesser as the signees on the account. All were in favor. Ms. Hoffman will be delivering the minutes stating this approval to open the checking account. Summer Recreation Program: Pastor Faylor stated that Mrs. Brymesser has been working to set up the recreation activities for the summer and requested that she be paid for her time invested in the program thus far. A motion was made by Ms. Hoffman, seconded by Mr. Sinkovitz to have Mrs. Brymesser paid for the time she has devoted to the: research of events to be contracted for the summer: recreation program. All were in favor. Mrs. Diehl asked ifthere was al limit to amount that Mrs. Brymesser could earn. Ms. Hoffman stated inj previous yearsi it was approved for up to 251 hours per week. Summer Fun and Faith Days are staffed by the sponsoring church volunteers. The Borough will pay Mrs. Brymesser for opening and closing of thej park pavilion and bathrooms only, as clarified by the Borough Manager. The fundraising and sponsorship letters were discussed. A motion was made by Mrs. Diehl, seconded by Mr. Sinkovitz to approve the letter and start distributing it. All were in favor. Clarification was made on the days the summer program will run for three days per week. Mrs. Brymesser met with the Borough Manager to discuss a donation ofhousehold items to the park that was made by a private citizen. The idea was tol have a flea market by the community toj purchase 10x 10 spaces for $20.00 each which would go towards the summer récreation programs and each individual would sell their own items. A food truck would also be contacted for the event. It was decided that the flea market will be held on May 21,2022, with set up time of7:00 AM. A: motion was made by Mrs. Diehl, seconded by Pastor Kindon to Mrs. Brymesser would also like tol have ai family dinner with food truck participation at the park on an evening in June. Mrs. Diehl asked ift this would need to be approved by Borough Council. Mrs. Brymesser was not aware that this would need tol be contracted with the food trucks to donate some of their sales to the summer program. It was decided to table this event Mrs. Brymesser informed the committee of three rain dates for the summer program which are. June 16, July 14 and July 27. There will be no events scheduled during the week of July 4th, due to the holiday and family vacations. The list of events will be posted in the approve a flea market at the park on May 21. Page 1of2 AI motion was made by Mr. Fry, seconded by Mrs. Diehl to accept the Summer Pastor Faylor has suggested Michael Rudisill be considered for the position of Summer Recreation Assistant. The rate of pay for the position is $13.00 per hour and is not to exceed twenty-five hours per week. Mr. Rudisill is currently employed by ESS and is an aide at Oak Flat Elementary School. It was agreed upon to invite Mr. Rudisill to the next recreation meeting, April 19, for the consideration of! hiring and then present the request to the Newville Borough Pastor Faylor has submitted a letter of request to the Borough Manager, asking for the use oft the Community Park for Summer Faith and Fun. The program will run for nine Fridays, beginning June 17 and concluding August 12. They are currently recruiting God Force Agents (GFAs). The theme this year is the Beatitudes in Matthew Chapter 5. The churches involved are: Big Spring Heights, Diller Mennonite, Movement Outreach, Greenspring First Church of God, and Christian Life Community Church. Other local churches have shown their support with donations. Pastor Faylor spoke with Josh Beck with Chick fil A for thel kick off] lunch on June 17th. Mrs. Diehl volunteered for Zion Lutheran Church to sponsor a lunch on. June 24th at 11:30. Old Business: Mr. Yost stated that the final quote and specs were sent tol him today. The quoted rate including freight is $4,763. To start the build, 50% ofthe cost is required. Mr. Yost offered funds from the ballpark maintenance fund to get this started, with the expectation of reimbursement from the Borough when the grant fund is available in June. A motion was made by Mr. Yost, seconded by Pastor Kindon to present the offer to Borough Council at the March 29th meeting. All were in favor. Steel and materials have been delivered to start the construction and landscaping once the weather permits. Mr. Yost reported that Little League practice has Pastor Faylor confirmed with Mr. Yost the reservation ofthe ball field for the churches Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt will be conducted on April 10th, with ai rain date of April 16th. There will be three age groups for the children, ages walking through twelve years old. Mrs. Diehl Mr. Sinkovitz has contacted Solicitor Marcus McKnight to establish ai non-profit incorporation ofa 501C3.
