NEWVILLE BOROUGH RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING EBRUARVZLVBATZAD PM The regular monthly meeting of the Newville Borough Recreation Commission on' Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 7:00 PMi in the Newville Borough Office, 4 West was held Newville Pennsylvania. Thei invocation was offered by Mr. Matthew Kump followed Street, the Pledge of Allegiance. The following members were present: Matthew Kump, Sinkovitz, Sandy Brymesser, Mike Fry and Jody Hoffman. Also present was. Dena Joey Seitz. Diehl, by Ed New Business: Acceptance of the Minutes: Ms. Hoffman gave the treasurer's report stating that the balance 2023 was $7,119.71. Interest earned was $0.12, with an ending beginning balance of$ $7,119.83 of. January, 31,2023. She reported there will be a soda machine deposit later this week. A motion was made by Mr. Sinkovitz, seconded by Mrs. Brymesser to amend the. minutes to add Mrs. Brymesser's name as the vice-chair ofthe commission. All were January Motion carried with six (6) affirmative and zero (0) negative votes. on. January in favor. 2023 Summer Program Update: Mrs. Brymesser has not started booking as to date but plans on starting in mid-March. She would like to set up at the Fountain Festival with some flyers advertising the summer A suggestion was made to have a family camp day at the park. Camping activities, Mrs. Brymesser would like a date set up for a clean up oft the concession stand. She would like to. have the chairs removed and the metal appliances removed. The metal can be program. Thej plan ist to start on. June 13th. and foods would add to the theme. Further discussion will be at a later date. songs disposed ofin the scrap metal dumpster for Toys for Tots. Hiring a Recreation Assistant: Mission Statement: New Members: Itv was recommended to start advertising for an assistant in March. The position will have Mr. Kump would like a statement that defines the recreation commission. He asked Mr. Kump spoke with Michelle Stern about becoming ai member of the recreation commission. He stated that she is still thinking it over. Ms. Hoffman received al letter ofinterest from Rev. Dr. Stephen Melton, the new pastor ofthe Big Spring Presbyterian Church to serve as ai member on the Recreation Committee. Dena Seitz would also like to become ai member. She Amotion wasi made by Mr. Fry, seconded by Mr. Kump to present both interested parties to thel Borough Council for appointment at their February 28th meeting. Winter Carnival: It was decided by Mrs. Brymesser and Mr. Kump to change the Carnival to a Summer Preview event and postpone it to February ofr next year. They felti it was too rushed and would seem thrown together for this year. Pagelof2 Old Business: Scoreboard: Splash Pad: Nonprofit: Additional: The scoreboard is on pause for the moment. Itl has been mentioned to sell itl however, The splash pad is also on pause until the grant funding is obtained and match is available. Mr. Sinkovitz advised that Mr. McKnight has put the 501c3 status on hold. Mrs. Brymesser has requested to conduct a yard sale at the park on the 24th from 8 until 41 PM and 25th ofMarch from 8. AM to 12 Noon to sell the donated items she has received AM and the money going towards the summer recreation program. She would also like to make chicken corn soup and hotdogs fors sale for donation. A motion was made by Mr. Sinkovitz, seconded by Mr. Fry toj present Mrs. Brymesser's request to Council at their February 28, 2023 meeting. All were in favor. She has also received storage donations including Mr. Fry asked about the Last Friday Concert series and ifthey would continue this summer. Ms. Hoffman responded that it was up to Council and iff funds would be available. It grant money was used for the purchase and that is not an option. Mrs. Brymesser would like to sell the items shel has stored in her unit residents of Newville. from was mentioned the possibility ofapproaching businesses for sponsorship.
