ASSISTANT COUNTY MANAGER & DEPARTMENT HEADS COUNTY MANAGER Regular Meeting November 19, 2024 3 COMMISSIONERS Chairman Dockery gave an update on the ACCG district meeting that he attended earlier today inl Habersham County. They discussed hot topics at thes statel level and how they affect our county, including HB 581, next-generation 911, truck weights, and affordable housing. Hes said there is a push to emphasize multifamily housing butt that is not a good fit for our community. By being selective about where wej put infrastructure, we can prevent such developments from coming in, he said. Carolanne Jarrard came to speak about al local mountain biking group: for kids. Currently, there are groups for middle schoolers and high schoolers, and they are going to start a group: for 3rd through 5th graders. Itisp part ofa statewide program and shei iss serving ast thel local coach. Ms. Jarrard saidi iti is difficult to find places for thel kids toi ride, ands she hopes the County will consider mountain biking in their future planning. She said the Trail) Rangers will start March 3rd Commissioner Greene asked Ms. Jarrard what thei ideal length ofar mountain bike trail would be, and she said about3 miles would be average for al beginner trail. Chairman Dockery asked her ifthis was affiliated with the school system. She replied that iti isn't officially as school program, but they sometimes work in conjunction with schools. The groups are categorized by grade level, but that ist tol keep the ages similar, not! because iti is an official school program. Commissioner Greene asked ifyouth mountain biking was starting tol become popular in local parks & recreation programs. Tim Towe saidi itl has happened in ai fewj places that! hel knows of, but iti isn't super popular yet. Chairman Dockery said Blackburn!
