City of Groveland Minutes Recreation Advisory Committee Meeting Tuesday, September 10, 2024 The City of Groveland Recreation Advisory Committee (RAC) held a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in the Lake David Community Center located at 450 S. Lake Avenue, Groveland, FL 34736. Vice Chair Linda Cowels called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. with the following members present: Members Frederick Wood, Chuck Kenzig, Michael Gris, David Badillo, and School Board Member Representative Lashawn Irvin. City staff present were Parks & Community Services Director Mike Walker and Recording SecrelalyAdminstrative Excused Absence: Chair Joscelyn Campbell, Committee Member David Bergstein Assistant Vanessa Boodhoo. Unexcused Absence: Committee Member Shana Martin CONSENT AGENDA Consideration of Approval: July 09, 2024 Recreation Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting Minutes Motion: Committee Member Wood moved to approve the Consent Agenda; seconded by Committee Member Gris. Motion passed with all committee members present voting aye. PRESENTATIONS 2024 Calendar of Events Parks & Community Services Director Mike Walker referenced the Calendar of Events contained in the agenda packet. Mr. Walker provided an update as follows: Upcoming Events Adult Basketball League will begin on Monday September 23, 2024, at the Nathaniel Youth Basketball League will begin on Monday September 30, 2024, at the Nathaniel The Outdoor Adventure Series Summer Program remaining schedule for the year includes The Annual Trunk or Treat Event will be held on October 31, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. = 7:00 Community Gymnasium in Hope International Church. Community Gymnasium in Hope International Church. traditional archery, fishing skill, electric surfboard, and axe throwing. p.m. at Cherry Lake Park. 1 SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE (RAC) MEETING MINUTES The Dia de Los Muertos event will be held on November 1, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Lake David Park. OLD BUSINESS 1. Capital Improvement Plan (FY/24) packet and reported the following: Mr. Walker referenced the Capital Improvement spreadsheet contained in the agenda South Lake Regional Park - Phase IA Construction is one hundred percent (100%6)complete. Mr. Walker mentioned the final walk-through had taken place and there are some areas of sod that struggled due to the lack of rain. Those areas will Cherry Lake Park Phase 2 - Eighty-five percent (85%) complete, with some sidewalks still needing to be closed together. Electricals are ninety-five percent (95%) completed. Landscaping is seventy-five percent (75%) complete. Restroom David Blanks Park = Vision plan for David Blanks Park is complete. Has been need to be replaced with new sod. isi installed and complete. approved by Council. 2. Cherry Lake Park Update reported the following: Mr. Walker referenced photos of Cherry Lake Park contained in the agenda packet and Trash cans and picnic tables have been bolted in. Restroom is installed. The playground is completed. Dirt areas to be seeded and sodded. Large trees along the playground area have been planted in. Most grass areas along the backside of the hill are sodded. 3. South Lake Regional Park Update and reported the following: Mr. Walkerr referenced photos of South Lake Regional Park contained in the agenda packet Sod and seed areas of South Lake Regional Park completed. Discussion/ Groveland Park Prototype A Mr. Walker referenced the Community Park Prototype A included int the agenda packet and reviewed the park amenities. Mr. Walker requested approval of Community Park Prototype A as presented. Motion: Committee Member Kenzig moved to select concept Prototype A; seconded by School Board Member Representative Irvin. Motion passed with all committee members present voting aye. REPORTS a. Elese Tomlin Community Center Vice Chair Cowels referenced the Elese Tomlin Community Center Report included in the Vice Chair Cowels reported the newly constructed Elese Tomlin Community Center is moving along and mentions that the construction manager Hunter is onsite for anyone interested in viewing the new building. Vice Chair Cowels reported that a meeting was held regarding window coverings for blinds and tomorrow a meeting to select furnishings for the new agenda packet and reports that nothing has changed. building. b.
