Currently, the Wilbur and McMahon school is noti ine exceedance oft the Rhode Island drinking water Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 20ppt (parts per trillion) for the: sum of six PFAS compounds. The school does exceed the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPAs) newly announced MCL for PFOA of 4 ppt (2029 compliance deadline on thet federal level - but a 2026 deadline on the: state level for engaging RIIB grant monies). Specifically, in samples collected in March 2023, results showed that PFOA is present in the school's drinking water supply at 6.46ppt and 6.43 ppt. Wilbur and McMahon School, and all public water systems, have at transition period in which they have time to come into compliance with the EPA's new standards. Public water: systems must demonstrate compliance with EPAS MCL by 2029. We have engaged Haley & Aldrich (H&A) to work with us on the Little Compton/LCSD PFAS regulatory compliance project to obtain grant funding for the estimated (per RIDOH's calculations): $550K upgrade to thei town's/school's The project will include: thoroughly analyzing the town's water system to target particulate infiltration and any other water quality issues, designing and constructing a holistic mitigation system.
