POWHATAN COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES  Board Meeting 10/22/2024  Attendance: Meghan Carroll, Director Will Hagy, Deputy County Administrator Lindia Cox Lynne LaPierre Sean Campbell  Management Team and Staff Meghan Carroll, Director Call to order Invocation  The meeting was called to order at 9:33 am Lindia Cox provided the invocation. Public Comment Period Approval ofMinutes  There were no public comments at this meeting.  Lindia Cox, seconded by Sean Campbell approved minutes from prior meetings. Meghan Carroll added DSS Board recruitment ideas to the agenda.  AmmouncemensAldtions to Agenda  Agency Updates  Meghan Carrol provided agency updates for the board. There was discussion on advocacy for the Willl Hagy mentioned population growth from 1980 to present with growing gof13,0001 to 30,000 Discussion took place regarding the Domestic Violence Grant application that will provide aj part Request made for ongoing agency updates to: focus more on the bigger picture and less on details. DSS's current mission statement was: reviewed and will be discussed further at next meeting. ALICE scores presented and the Board was asked to review before next. Board meeting. The report indicates that approximately 25% of population may not be considered financially stable. Review of] Board duties - Meghan Carroll reviewed duties and provided copies oft thel handbook. Board members asked to review the handbook again to understand their responsibilities. Will Board interest discussion - the Board shared experiences with onboarding and stated there is a lot ofroom for improvement with this process. Meghan Caroll will work with them to develop a morei inclusive and understandable orientation process. The Board isi interested in attending staff  state formula change for our administrative budget allocation and for VaCMS.  residents.  time Domestic violence worker.
