MALABAR TOWN COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING NOVEMBER 07, 2024, 7:00F PM This meeting oft the Malabar Town Council was held at Town Hall at 2725 Malabar Road. 1. CALL TO ORDER: 2. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Mayor Reilly. The P&P was led by Mayor Reilly. CERTIFYTHE UNOFFICIAL ELECTION RESULTS Clerk Kohler states that there was one referendum question on the ballot for Malabar voters to decide if they wanted to continue with the MSTU for law enforcement services provided by Brevard County. The unofficial results indicate that the referendum was approved by 91.92% of There were no candidates on the ballot for this election. Mayor Patrick T. Reilly and District 2 Council Member Brian Vail both met the term limits imposed by the Town Code. Mayor Reilly served two consecutive four-year terms. The Office of the Mayor was unchallenged, and Steve Rivet will be sworn in for a four-year term. Council Member Vail served three consecutive two- yeart terms. Thel District2 Council Member seat was unchallenged, and Julane Kikla willl be sworn Districts 1 Council Member Marisa Acquaviva and District 3 Council Member Jim Clevenger were unchallenged incumbents. Council Member Acquaviva will be sworn in to serve her third consecutive two-year term. Council Member Clevenger will be sworn in to serve his second CM Vail/CM Hofmeister Motion to accept unofficial election results. 5-0 (AlIl Ayes) the voters, or 1,854 voting yes and 163 voting no. ini for a two-year term. consecutive two-year term. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS Wayne Abare - 2530 Rocky Point Road - States Steve Rivet has large shoes to fill. Mayor Pat Reilly started his job as Mayor 8 years ago. He came tot this job with over 15 years ofe experience as a member and later chairman of the Malabar Planning and Zoning Board. This experience was invaluable in helping to update the latest Malabar Comprehensive Land Development Code. Pat championed creating more RLC & OI commercial zoning along Malabar's major arteries US1, Babcock Street and Malabar Road. Pat also found and hired Lisa Morrell. Thank you, Pat, for Lindsey Wilson - 2230 Howell Lane - Stated is has been a pleasure to work with Mayor Reilly. She encourages him to continue to come to Town Hall to visit. They both laughed, but the question made him realize that Malabar needs to get into the 21st century! With thel helpf from Debby Franklin, Rich Kohler and Lisa Morrell, we were ablet to update our Town's website to be more useful for the residents of Malabar. During his term as Mayor, the We added all of the individual parcels Zoning and Future Land Use Map designations to be We have also upgraded and streamlined all of the building department permit applications and We updated our stormwater plan and have identified the areas of thei town that need attention. We have purchased a new Fire Truck, slope mower, skid steerer, Ford F-4501 truck, and other We raised the milage rate from 2.21 to 4.5mils and dedicated that 2.3mils money to resurface all of the arterial roads that has been neglected by kicking the can down the road. We have improved the community park playground, and resurfaced the tennis and basketball following objectives were completed: easily searched. processes. We have hired more Town Staff to increase the productivity of Town Hall. Public works has done an excellent jobi in getting water moved out of town. equipment toi improve the Fire and Public Works departments. courts. We added an ADAI restroom to the Malabar Trailhead. We used the American Recovery Plan Act monies toi install an electronic sign at the Fire Department and we are well on our way to completing the Laserfische and scanning of the Mayor Reilly then states that none of this would have been accomplished without the support of Town Council. He would like to thank them all for their dedicated work over the years to improve the town that we live in and toi improve our quality ofl life. He would also like toi thank our Town Staff, Building Department, Public Works Department and Fire Department for their dedicated support. He would especially like to thank Judy Schultz for being the informal social media director and her efforts keeping the Malabar residents up to date on the Town's happenings. It has been a great 8-years and honor serving the Town as your Mayor. He wishes Steve Rivet all the best in moving the Town of Malabar forward and representing the Town as our Mayor.
