Overt thel last few weeks Officer Willis and Officer McAbee assisted the county on as suicidal teenagerj just outside the city limits and whent they arrived and asked the parents where their son was all that one What has he done now" Officer McAbee made his way to thet teenager that was int his room and had parent attempted to call his friends tot tell them good bye andi had his gun safe openi inh his room. Officer McAbee was in training for this veryt type of call the same week and ity was already putting himi int these situations. Officer McAbee talkedi to they young man, and! he opened up toi him tol let him knowi it was al bullying problem. They young man said he couldn't speak to his parents and went oni into the conversation with Officer McAbee on several othert topics that showed thatt this though had been ont this young man'si mindf for some time. They assisted in getting the information to thep parents on getting their son some help and the message across that their soni felt he couldr not talk toi them aboutt these issues. Also, Officer Fortenberry found himself on ac call with an older lady that! had been found walking a city street at 2am in ther morning and she was confused and had noi idea where she lived or how to get back home. After getting medical services to come check her outa and contacting the DSS worker on calli itv was decided that due tot the confusion the lady wouid be sent tot thel hospital tol be evaluated toi insure there wasn't a deeper medical issue thatr needed tol be addressed. After thel lady was ont the way to the hospital witht the bits and pieces that he was able to obtain from the lady and a couple of phone calls he was able to go the residence where the older lady lived to let heri what had gone on and where their loved one was along with the reason that hel had handled the calli in family this Also, on a different note these calls aren't what mostv would consider to! be important law enforcement calls, way. butt would be mistaken. These guys never! knowy whatt their days will consist off from peaceful interactions with our they residents ori ift they willl be responding to a suicide thatt they were not notified before the act was complete. Itt takes a special person tol handle some oft these calls andf fortunately these guys are some oft those special people. said was know Saluda Board of Commissioner meeting & Public Hearing - 9/9/2024 5 14-Outside Resources and Funds City Manager Orr went over the fitness court - Studio askedi for ar motion to apply for a grant.
