Town of Davie Let's Talk Business Recognition, De Vita Academy of Art, Ariana Briceno, Public Camryn Tippetts, public relations assistant, announced the 2024 second-quarter recipient for Let's Talk Business as De Vita Academy of Art. Mrs. Tippetts provided an overview of the business Dita, located at 5400 South University Drive, which was founded by Tom and Linda Dita and had been providing a transformative educational experience in art for nearly a decade. The Academy combined traditional and contemporary artistic methods, offering a range of courses from foundational drawing to sculpture and fashion design. It was noted for its emphasis on skill-building, Relations Coordinator personalized instruction, and a supportive environment for artists of all levels. V. Site Plan -SP23-018 Country Inn Pet Resort (2100 South Flamingo Road, Zoned AG) Andrew Schein, representing the applicant, provided an overview of the project along with the history and purpose of the expansion. Established in 2006, the resort expanded in 2013 and 2020 due to increased demand. Mr. Schein emphasized that this was the last expansion phase of a planned four-phase development. He explained that the facility functioned as a high-quality pet resort, which included an animal hospital and served various law enforcement agencies. The proposed expansion added thirty-six (36) new kennels, bringing thet total to one hundred and eighty- two (182). The expansion connected to the existing resort and featured soundproof, enclosed kennels designed to minimize noise. The presentation addressed concerns about sound levels, noting that the new construction was expected to reduce ambient noise. Mr. Schein stated that the expansion was about 5,000 square feet, which brought the overall square footage to about 40,000 square feet. The project also included updates to drainage and landscaping, with a commitment to not build on the dry retention area. The expansion aimed to enhance the facility's capacity and Quasi-Judicial Consent Agenda quality. Mayor Paul asked what kind of trees were being removed from the property. Mr. Schein advised that the trees were being relocated, not removed, and would go through the proper root pruning and watering process. PAGE40F10 08072024 Mayor Paul asked for an explanation of how the dry retention areas were being improved to Mr. Schein explained that only a little demand was added to the drainage. However, the applicant was increasing the High-Density Polyethylene (HDP) pipe from twelve (12) inches to twenty-four Mayor Paul stated that several letters were submitted from residents with concerns about dogs barking. Mayor Paul was pleased to hear everything was enclosed except for the dog runs. Mayor Mr. Schein replied that it could be done, however, the outdoor element was a big selling point for customers. The only area not enclosed was the outdoor play area that was surrounded by the Councilmember Luis stated that he went to the property and did not think, according to its design, that her request was feasible. Councilmember Luis stated that he did not see any issue with sounds. He shared that he visited a neighboring development and could not hear the dogs barking. Mayor Paul asked if the applicant would consider restricting the hours that the dogs were outside. Ifno complaints were made within the first six (6) months, it could return to regular hours. Ms. Schein explained that this would cause a delay in allowing dogs outside, sO this was something other than what would be feasible. He explained that all the dogs were not allowed outside at the Mayor Paul emphasized that although letters from residents were submitted, they did not attend Mayor Paul asked if the applicant was considering putting two homes on the property. They discussed projects that the Town of Davie was doing and how the HUD monies were being PURPLE HEART DAY Mayor Paul announced that August 7 was Purple Heart Day. She provided a reminder that the Town of Davie had a Purple Heart Trail and was very proud of the veterans who MAGAZINE Mayor Paul stated that. Jared Blaut announced that he was ceasing printing the DRW Magazine. Mr. Blaut explained that it took significant time to obtain advertisers to cover the increased costs for printing and postage. Mayor Paul shared how DRW started as the Westen Express ini the mid-1980s. Mr. Blaut would now pursue his photography business full-time and assist RODEO Mayor Paul reminded everyone to get their rodeo tickets for September 7. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT Mayor Paul stated that she was pleased with the number of people who attended the National Night Out event at Betty Booth Roberts Park. SOCIAL MEDIA - Mayor Paul wanted information on how social media was monitored. Precisely when it came to those renting out rooms within their homes and posting this on social media. CODE COMPLIANCE- Mayor Paul advised that al house southwest of Betty Booth had six (6) toseven (7) cars parked in the front yard, and a neighbor suggested that more in the backyard were being TAKE-A-KID FISHIN' Mayor Paul stated that the event was great and some of the kids caught large MIDDLE EAST- Mayor Paul explained that the Town of Davie was concerned withi the growingi issues of antisemitism and the destruction of buildings using graffiti. She explained that the police department was very proactive in protecting the. Jewish Community Center (JCC) monitoring issues. She received a letter from a resident who expressed concerns over the large-scale violence that broke out in Bangladesh targeting Hindu minorities. Mayor Paul explained that she was going to spent. COUNCILMEMBER WHITMAN SCHOOL SUPPLIES - The Councilmember stated that school supplies were distributed at the Davie PAL, Rick and Rita Case Boys and Girls Club, and the Florence de George Boys and Girls Club. VETERANS BREAKFAST - Councilmember Whitman announced that the August breakfast was postponed because the Multipurpose Center was going to be used as a polling place. COFFEE WITH A COP- Councilmember stated that the community policing unit was hosting a Coffee With a Cop event on August 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Ella Café. BIRTHDAYS Councilmember Whitman wished those celebrating in the month of August a Happy Birthday. VICE MAYOR STARKEY NATIONAL NIGHT OUT Councilmember Starkey thanked all of those from the police department who attended the National Night Out event in Forest Ridge. Councilmember Starkey also thanked SUMMER ACTIVITIES - Councilmember Starkey shared that she spent her summer with her daughters, grandchildren, and other families doing different activities such as beach clean-up and turtle education. She was hoping that families could sign up for a park cleanup in the future. FOREST RIDGE-Councimember Starkey stated that at few neighbors in Forest Ridge werei interested in closing off access. Access ini the site plan allowed people to use their bikes or walk through access to the elementary school. There was an ongoing issue where cars would be parked along the area, and access would be blocked. A meeting was scheduled to create another access further down the road, but in previous discussions, residents did not want this. Vice Mayor Starkey shared that the issue of cars blocking access mainly occurred at the beginning of the school year and felt that this was more of an enforcement and educational issue. COUNCILMEMBER HATTAN TOWN STAFF Councilmember Hattan commended Town of Davie staff for all of the things they SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SRO) - councilmember Hattan asked Mr. Lemack for an update on Mr. Lemack explained that the Town of Davie had a contract witht the Broward County School Board, SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER - Councilmember Luis announced that the Small Business Development Center was hosting a 4-week interactive workshop that was available online. VENDOR TRAINING - Councilmember Luis stated that the procurement division was hosting a vendor training seminari that provided those businesses that were interested in doing business with the Town of Davie information on how to do sO. This was scheduled for August 15 at 10:00 a.m. at SCHOOL SALES TAX- Councilmember Luis provided a reminder about the School Sales Tax holiday UTILITIES DIVESTITURE - Councilmember Luis thanked Mr. Lemack and the staff for all their work did. She explained that she enjoyed alli the events she recently attended. the SROs since the new: school year was approaching. and the schools would be fully staffed with SROs. MARLON LUIS the Pine Island Multipurpose Center. which ended on August 11. PAGE 90F10 08072024 concerning the utility divestiture study. XV. TOWN ADMINISTRATOR COMMENTS RICHARD J. LEMACK TRIM NOTICE - Mr. Lemack stated that he wanted to remind property owners that they would receive their Truth in Milleage (TRIM) notices from the Broward County Property Appraiser in the coming weeks. The Town of Davie proposed a stormwater assessment fee that was incorporated into the notice. Mr. Lemack provided a handout of an informational brochure made available for frequently asked questions about the topict to help property owners which would be included in the notices. He also explained that a temporary customer service center would be open for any calls related to the stormwater assessment. XVI. TOWN ATTORNEY COMMENTS PHILIP SHERWIN No comments XVII.
