CITY OF ARNOLDSVILLE CITY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING 10/8/2024 Mayor: Council Present: Danny Morcom Lillian Sanders, Norma Craddock, Joel Kriner, Blake Arnold, Joyce Sniff City Employees Present: Dana Player City Attorney Present: Danny Love At 6:00 pm the meeting was called to order by Mayor Danny Morcom Mayor Danny Morcom called the meeting to ask the council to pay off the mortgage on the city hall building. He told the council it would save the city from paying interest every month. He said the water side pays 70 percent, and the city side pays 30 percent of the bill. Blake Arnold said that we needed to drill a new well and well house. He was concerned about the water maintenance and did not want to spend the money now. Vote 3-0 Water Department Report Water Superintendent, Adam Boswell, said that everything was going smoothly. He put in several taps that needed bores and there was still one to do. The Meyer Farm Well is waiting on Georgia Power tol be able to finish the repair. He backed the wells down some more. The lead and copper audit has been completed. Mr. Boswell said that they would need to update There was a water leak on Oak Street that they repaired. Lynn Shedd is waiting on it to pack down before he covers the road. Adam Boswell said they normally do concrete. He said that itevery year. eventually asphalt comes apart. 1 Fire Department Arnoldsville Fire Chief, Heath Baker, reported that there were a couple of calls. The Barbecue Chief] Baker said that the tanker truck would be here around midnight, but it would be two to three weeks to get in service. They need somewhere to put the truck, sO they are going to keep He also said they are looking for internet at the fire station. Zoning Land Use/Zoning Officer Lynn Shedd reported that he has an inspection on a power pole tomorrow. Also, they are clearing out on Yancey Road for the modular home to be brought in. New Business Mayor Danny Morcom said that he sat down with Joel Kriner and Norma Craddock to discuss the 2025 Budget. They went over each line item and came up with the new budget. Joyce Sniff Mayor Morcom stated that there was a complaint about large oaks trees possibly falling on Oak Street with bad weather like we had from the hurricanes. He said there were 7 or 8 huge trees. City Attorney, Danny Love said that he would check into it, but the road is extremely narrow and doesn't meet any requirements for widths. Itis a one lane road and unclear oft the right of way. He would need to see who is responsible. Attorney Love asked Mayor Morcom if the trees City Attorney, Danny Love, asked about having the Christmas Party this year again at the Arnoldsville Baptist Church. Joyce Sniff suggested that we have it on December 14th. City said that she trusted them and agreed with it. looked healthy. Mayor Morcom said they did look healthy. Clerk, Dana Player said she would get with them and see if we could set it up. Old Business City Attorney, Danny Love, said he is working on the emergency water masterplan. He suggested that they have a limit on the gallons of water a customer can use and if they go over, there will be a surcharge. It was agreed they would discuss this at the next meeting.
