TOPIC(S): The Mayor and City Council shall discuss, make and receive comments and hear proposals and additional discussion from the public generally on the topic ofl Emergency Preparedness and to specifically discuss proposals for the City's policies and procedures for preparedness planning and addressing citywide emergencies. The Mayor and City Council anticipate providing guest speakers. Members ofthe public are encouraged to attend to provide input on issues affecting all aspect of the City's management of municipal resources in times of ChiefGonzales- States that there is a great potential ofhaving a busy hurricane season. Introduces guests Robert Grimm, Mike Rowell (TDEM). States that everyone needs to plan before hurricane season starts. States that ift there is an evacuation call, you need to Robert Grimm- States that the time tol look for a place to evacuate to is when a voluntary ChiefGonzales- States that leaving when a voluntary evacuation, traffic won't be as bad as when there is a mandatory evacuation is. There is no such thing as a mandatory evacuation. States that they can't make you leave your home. States that id therei is someone that chooses not to stay, the emergency management team will write their name down and check on1 them periodically. States that he encourages taking pictures ofyour belongings and home. Suggests making sure that youl have enough medication to last for at least 2 weeks. Suggests keeping gas tanks full before the storm enters the gulf. When a hurricane makes landfall, there I no mandatory evacuation. Ifyou make the decision to stay,you are on your own. At some point and time there will not be any first responders Robert Grimm- States that St. E will not allow you to go in the hospital, they will treat Chief Gonzales- States that there will be no utilities, fuel or groceries available. States that after al hurricane, the conditions may not let you back into the neighborhood due to life threatening issues. States tol be cautious about wildlife and critters. Suggests using caution when using aj portable generator. There have been deaths due to the placement ofthe generators. States that the NOAA is predicting more hurricanes than there has ever been. Councilman Thibodeaux- Asks ifthere are any needs that the emergency response team Chief Gonzales- States that the emergency services have resources, but suggests helping Mayor- Asks ifthe City could offer the Event Center for a staging area ifneeded. Bryant Burkes (Team 409)- States that they are usually self-sufficient. States that Robert Grimm- States that the first stepi is going to be the emergency management and Chris Gonzales- States that the City has to make sure that they work through the chain of command so that the needs can be made. States that during Harvey there were several volunteers that wanted to help, but they caused an issue because law enforcement wasn't aware of who they were because they did not follow the chain ofc command Mrs. Scroggins- Asks as citizens who does their information come from? Mike Rowell- States that there is a difference between a disaster declaration and an Mayor Mitchell- States that the citizens will get a survey to complete in order to get Mike Rowell- States that a there is different effects ofaevery hurricane and how the situation is handled. Suggests taking before and after pictures. States there are volunteer organizations that willl help much out houses ifthose services are requested.
