MINUTES OF THE SHADE TREE COMMISSION OF1 THE BOROUGH OF SEWICKLEY October1 1, 2024 The Shade Tree Commission (STC) convened on October 1, 2024, in Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairperson Andrew Frishkorn at 7:00 p.m. Ina attendance were: Members Of Council Cynthia Mullins (Absent) Arborist Tyler Hunt Visitors Kathy Brandt, Chairperson (Absent) Andrew Frishkorn, Vice Chairperson Danielle Shinsky Chris Crayton, Secretary Mary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES STAFFING UPDATES None None September meeting minutes unanimously approved upon motion by Andrew. III. OLD BUSINESS IV. NEW/BUSINESS- - ARBORIST REPORT & APPLICATIONS Tree Removal Program: Tyler will continue to work with the Donna on the removal of trees that have been identified with a risk rating of 3 and 4 as well as trees that have been applied for removal. Tyler will also continue to work with Public Works for the Tree Maintenance Program: Tyler will work with Donna to create a pruning list consisting of risk ratings of 3 and 41 for the next bid package. He will also work with Tree Planting Program: Tyler will continue to work with Donna on purchasing additional trees to plant for the Fall. Plantings will heavily depend on the availability of Public Works. Tyler will continue to identify available planting spaces as well as trees that are removal of the smaller trees. Public Works for pruning ofs smaller trees. appropriate to plant in thet fall/winter. Removal/Pruning Applications: 318 Centennial Ave.: Application for pruning ofa Borough tree. The tree isa London Plain tree with large dead branches int the canopy. Arborist recommends approval and will be added to the next pruning bid package. 630 Academy Ave.: Application for pruning ofa Borough tree. The application noted that branches are falling on cars. Tyleri identified the tree as a Pin Oak with several dead branches. The Pin Oak and neighboring tree will be added 640 Pine St.: Application for removal of private trees. Tyleri identified several Norway Spruce trees that are dead and within the hazard zone. Application approved pending use of approved tree removal company. 505 Grove St.: Application for pruning of Borough tree. The tree was identified asal Norway Maple and has previously been added to the pruning list and will 136 Centennial. Ave.: Application for removal of a Borough tree. Tyler indicated that the treei is already dead and willl be added to the removal list. Tyler recommends notifying the residents of the effects of using herbicides near trees as that may be the issue. Arborist also identified a stump nearby 217 Frederick Ave.: Application for pruning of a Borough tree. Arborist noted that the tree needs pruning, and the tree will be added to the next pruning 345 Thorn St.: Application for removal of private trees received from the visitors during the meeting. Tyler willl be visiting the site to offer an opinion on the health and immediate danger of the remaining trees. The applicationi is approved pending the arborist visit, property survey, and use of an approved Tree #1818: Arborist noted that thei tree has al limb extending towards the street andi it will be added to the next pruning bid package. Tree #1819 & 1820: Tyler will continue to monitor the Dogwood trees for root rot and will work with Donna on a possible treatment. STC discussed possible revisions and updates to the Shade Tree Ordinance.
