Commission Chairman John Westmoreland called the public hearing to order at 11:00 ADMNISTRATIVEFISCALMATTERS Assistant County Manager Dawn Hudson explained that at least one of the three public hearings on a millage increase rate hadt to begin before 12:00 PM. how property was valued and taxes were calculated holding public hearings and running public notice ads the school board rolled back their millage rate to 12.4 Ms. Hudson gave information on: setting the millage rate required procedure when the rollback rate exceeded the previous year, including homestead exemption freezes for property owners over 60 years of age approximately 60 percent of tax collections went to the school board and 40% to mandated services provided by the county, including courts and public safety 15% of collected funds were available fori the discretionary services provided by the county the county PUBLIC COMMENTS proposed millage rate was 10.32 Chairman' Westmoreland asked ift there were any comments from the public. Analisa Giles of 21 Oak Circle stated that this was complicated and would like to reach out to someone for more explanation. Ms. Hudson offered to meet with Ms. Giles and answer any questions she had about the millage rate or proposed budget. Commissioner Hall stated that the mandates required by the state allowed only a small portion of the taxes to be used as discretionary funds. ADJOURNMENT Ar motion was made by Commissioner Hall to adjourn the meeting at 11:09AM. Commissioner Davis seconded the motion and the meeting was adjourned.
