Kitzmiller Mayor and Town Council Monthly Meeting Minutes Monday, May 22nd, 2023 Date: Monday, May 22nd, 2023. In Attendance: Mayor Robert Reckart Councilman G. Glotfelty The meeting was called to order at 07:04 PM by Mayor Reckart. Opening prayer was led by Rita Councilmember Hechmer motioned to approve the meeting minutes from Monday, April 24th, 2023. USDA - Dump truck - Still waiting on Sam.gov to respond to the new letter. Appalachian Regional Commission Grant- (Museum) = Germain's is waiting on final parts for the HVAC at the museum. As soon as they come, they will get us on the schedule. Mountain Maryland Mini Grant - Park - This Grant can now be officially closed! Community Parks & Playgrounds = Kitzmiller submitted applications for three projects. Kitzmiller Park Pavilion Roof Replacement, Playground Resurfacing, & for Park Restrooms Restoration. Unfortunately, two were denied, but we were approved for one. We were Lowes Community Grant - Lowes does community projects every year to help the surrounding communities. Kitzmiller is one of their communities that they picked. One of the projects that they would like to begin is Handicap Access to the Library. They plan on having this finished before Homecoming. The tree that was planted in memory of Ms. Bessie Murphy will need to come out. Beccie brought up that Shellie Evans had mentioned she has a pussy willow tree to donate to the town for the Botanical Garden. Shellie said she would be honored to have it planted in Ms. Bessie's Memory. The council brainstormed different options for the flagpoles to try to help save on costs. From the company "Concord American Flagpole,"ifit were ordered, they decided on the American Tradition Flagpole Kit. 20' poles are $750, plus $66 for the flag. It was decided that there would have to be 8 poles all together. 1f for each branch of the military, POW/MIA flag, state flag, and American flag. The American Flag itself costs $77. So, for the flagpole kit and the flag, each one would cost an estimated $816 ($827 for the and American Flag). The council decided that itwould be a great community effort to raise pole the money for the flagpoles. It was agreed that the flagpoles could have dedication plaques all ordered by the town, sO they are all uniform.
