CITYC OFWHIGHAM COUNCIL MEETING SEPTEMBER 10, 2024  The Whigham City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Whigham City Hally with Mayor Trey Gainous presiding. Gainous called the meetingt to order at 6:00P.M. and Robert Porter opened the meeting with a prayer and led the Pledge to the Flag. Those present were: MayorTrey Gainous, Mayor Pro Tem. Jim Sellers, Jimmie Laing, Andrew Walden, Robert Porter, John. Jackson, Utilities Director. Josh Ausburn, and Assistant City Clerk Members of the public present:. Jane Trulock, Andrew Stringfellow. Jr., Judy Sullivan, Al Akridge, and  Taylor Lambert. Nick Farrell. Agenda Adoption  Amotion was made by Andrew' Walden to adopt the agenda. Robert Porter seconded the motion. AlL members present voted in favor of the motion. Motion carried.  Minutes Adoption carried.  Amotion was made by Jimmie Laing to adopt the minutes from the August meeting. Andrew Walden seconded the motion. AlL members present voted in favor of the motion. Motion  Special Called Meeting Minutes. Adoption  The Mayor and Council began conversation on a different topic. Mr. Robert Portert then realized that theyf forgott to adopt the special called meeting minutes. Ar motion was made by Andrew Walden to adopt the minutes from the: special called meeting. Jim Sellers seconded the motion. All members present voted ini favor of the motion. Motion carried.  Reports  The utility director. Josh Ausburn informed the Mayor and Council ons some things pertaining toi the beautification projects he has been working on around town. He has placed a new service on Ward Street as well as out at Bond's Sand mine.. Josh has also been rounding up bids to dos some paving on 179 South and part of Walker Street. Lastly the dump truckt that he has been working oni is  helping them out tremendously. Public Participation Andrew Stringfellow: Fair  Andrew Stringfellow came to explain the ends and outs of the fair. He said that the fair would include about twenty rides for adults and children of all ages. All1 the rides will be powered byt their own generators. The fair dates will be October 16th-19th. Mr. Robert Porter brought upt the concern of this fair being ont the: same dates as a neighboring county's fair and Stringfellow: assured Mr. Porter that it was not. Mr. Stringfellow! has been advertising the fairi inr multiple other cities and hopes to bringi in anywhere from 2001 to! 500 people a night. Hel has atready contacted The Whigham  City of Whigham Council Meetings September 10, 2024    Police Department to get help with security. Al Akridge raised his concern about parking and Mr. Stringfellowt then said that he would be able to provide help with parking ifr needed. He also stated thati if anyone needs morei information about thei fair you cany visit their Facebook page at' Vivid Fair Carey Bishop was notp present at1 the meeting, but Mayor Gainous told the Council that he spoke  Creations, Corporation. Carey Bishop: Leant to proposal  with Mr. Bishop ont the phone at few days priort to the meeting.  Council Matters of Interest  Jim Sellers brought up his concern fori the status of the Bruce Hester case on Christopher Ave. Mayor Gainous told him that Utilities Director. Josh Ausburn and City Clerk Rachel. Jenson have talked with Mr. Hester as well as hand delivered him a letter. He also stated that. Josh had done more: than he needed for Mr. Hestert to get thet fence up. Mr. Hester was given moret time to get the Mayor Gainous stated that he has been receiving multiple complaints about the round-up being sprayed all over town. He did say that the round-up spraying was his ideal because he was trying to reduce the time that Israel had to spend on weed eating which would lead to more time for himto cut grass. Josh expressedi thati israel would be cutting back on the: spraying because they were With no other matters to tend to, a motion to adjourn was made by. Jim Sellers. Andrew Walden seconded the motion. AlL members present voted ini favor. Motion carried.
