Board of Registrations and Elections consideration of a resolution calling a referendum for a Homestead Exemption from School District Ad Valorem Taxes, authorizing publication of the call of the November 5, 2024 special election, and for other purposes. Vice Chairman Natt recognized Representative Carter Barrett. Vice Chairman Natt with a second from Secretary Radzikinas made a motion to adopt the resolution calling for a referendum for a homestead exemption from school district ad valorem taxes authorizing publication of the call oft the November 5, 2024 special election. Motion carried unanimously. Added Agenda Item C.D Discussion of voter challenge policy Attorney Pachuta stated SB189 included changes to challenges pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-230 regarding National Change of Address (NCOA) information but did not address challenges pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-229. She said there is a higher burden with challenges pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-229. Attorney Pachutà said the board had received a challenge pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-229 with over 800 names. She stated Gwinnett County's voter challenge policy allows the director to administratively handle challenges that were submitted pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-229 that only provide NCOA information. Attorney Pachuta suggested the board consider updating their voter challenge policy with a similar provision.
