County Meeting July 18, 2024 6:00pm Minutes Union County Courthouse The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Paris at 6:03 pm. The Commissioner welcomed everyone to the meeting. The invocation was then given by Fire Chief/EMA Director David Dyer and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bill Walker. The minutes from the June 20, 2024 County Meeting were approved as presented, and attendees were provided copies. Commissioner Paris accepted an agreement between Legacy Link and Union County for the required local share during FY-2025 in the amount of$105,000.00. This is the amount Union County has committed in local funds to operate the Senior Center from July 1,2024 through June 30, 2025. These funds will be used to match and supplement federal and state monies for Congregate Meals at the Senior Center, Home Delivered Meals, Wellness Programming, Out ofHome Respite Care, and Transportation for Union County Seniors. Commissioner Paris stated that Union County has an excellent Senior Center and the seniors are excited to go there. The county's support, along with federal funds, operate the Senior Center. The participants also raise money to help with the Meals on The Commissioner appointed Robert Head, III to the Mountain Regional Library Board of Trustees for a three-year term to begin on July 1,2024 and set to expire on. June 30, 2025 (amended to. June 30, 2027 after the Q&A portion oft the meeting). This is the board that oversees the Mountain Regional Library System and includes the Union County Library. During the summer the library offers special programming for kids and the Commissioner appreciates all Attendees were provided a copy oft the list of Business Licenses issued in Union County from June 17,2024 to. July 14, 2024 for the purpose of operating a Short-term Rental in Union County. Commissioner Paris approved all Business Licenses contained on the list provided and Commissioner Paris accepted an Accountability Court Grant with grant number Y25-8-022 for the. Juvenile Justice Incentive Grant in the amount of$152,082.00. The grant period is from July The Commissioner announced Union County received notice from Senator Steve Gooch, with the Governor's support, that several counties in Georgia received some extra funding for new road projects. This is going tol boost them along to some extent. There will be about a 30- million-dollar grant from extra state monies that will be for extra road work. This funding will be used to buy right of way starting at the McDonalds red light all the way out to Gumlog Road. There are 220-240 right of ways that have to be purchased. Commissioner Paris stated that he did not anticipate this being done for years. Especially until GDOT had completed the road to Young Harris, which has taken a while. All these projects take a lot oft time and money. The Commissioner closed by saying he is very proud that Senator Gooch, The Governor and the Georgia Department ofTransportation Chairman are providing funds for Union County road Wheels Program. the work the library does. this will be made a part oft the minutes. 1,2024 to.
