THE WEST CITY COUNCIL MET ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3,2024, AT 5:30 - PM FOR A PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE 2024-2025 FISCAL YEAR PROPOSED TAX RATE OF $0.630000 PER $100 VALUATION, WHICH IS EFFECTIVELY, A 11.46 PERCENT INCREASE IN THE TAX RATE. THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'STAX RATE.THE TAXI RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 62.98 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FORMAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A$100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATEIYS61.04. Mayor Pratka asked if any citizens wanted to speak. Angaline Urban asked, why are we raising taxes? Mayor Pratka said the rates need to increase to cover our expenses including the new sewer plant. Mayor Pratka gave the pledge and invocation. 3. Roll Call: Council members present - Mayor Pratka, Natalie Kelinske, Chris Nors, Cody Harris, Joe Pustejovsky, and Matt Miller were present. 5. No action was taken on the sales tax allocation/EDC report. The Mayor reviewed August's monthly sales tax allocation, our sales tax revenue fort the month is $91,901.29, reflecting a $10,000 increase from last year. Additionally, the Mayor reported our Economic Development Commission (EDC)currently holds a balance of $256,836.15. Matt Millerr requested that Shawn Holden Report on the recent TCEQ water qualityinspection. Shawn reported that TCEQ inspections are once every three years and last month our water qualitywas inspected. He stated that the inspection passed and thanked John Holecek, Phillip Webre, and Evan Kudelka for the work they put in making sure everything was where it needed to be in ordert to pass inspection.
