Beautification Advisory Board Minutes Sept 16, 2024 STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF BEDFORD S S S The Bedford Beautification Advisory Board met in regular session on September 16, 2024, with the following members present: Andrew Woolen - Chairperson Tycom Wright-Vice- Chairperson Constituting a quorum. City Council/Staff Representatives: Mark Long - Parks Department Director Don Henderson - Parks Superintendent Nichelle Dawkins - Counciperson Duane MacDonald Amy Love Misty Mallory - Secretary Karen Jacobsen Sheila Kudray Rob Wisson CALL TO ORDER Andrew Woolen, Chairperson, called the Commission meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Beautification Commission minutes: August 19, 2024 regular meeting. Ty Wright moved that the minutes be approved; Sheila Kudray seconded. The motion 2. Staff updates: Don Henderson confirmed the Paper Shred Day was set for October 12th from 8- Council updates: Nichelle Hawkins advised the budget allotment for BAB was approved by council. NEW BUSINESS 3. Heather Lopez-Velarde; Chairperson of the Bedford Parks and Recreation Board led the discussion of an Arbor Day in Bedford event and asked the BAB board to sponsor and collaborate on event ideas. The board discussed several options and decided to determine what trees to plant and locations to plant on an Arbor Day event at the next BAB meeting. Trees from the City Master Plan will be considered. 4. Andrew Woolen led the discussion of the OBS Monarch garden and obtaining 2 more Request for Proposals for the service section of planting plants. One company required a fee up front to complete the bid and existing approved funds for this effort will be used to acquire this third bid. Andrew advised he will coordinate with this company to meet them at the site when they come 5. Fall Sweep is November 16th; the board discussed utilizing the city social media again to advertise as well as board members email organizations such as local large churches, Bell High School, and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce to advise of the event coming up for maximum participation. Ty Wright took the action to contact the city Teen Court to advertise this event and bid. inquire of the teems would need a sponsor present when they volunteer. OLD BUSINESS 5. These were duplicates of prior discussions from New Business. NEXT MEETING The next scheduled meeting of the Beautification Advisory Board will be October 21st, 2024. The next scheduled workday is October 12th, 2024 with the Paper Shred Day. ADJOURNMENT There being no additional business, Karen Jacobsen made a motion for adjournment of the meeting; Amy Love seconded the motion.
