They kept all8 8000 people ini the city safe and we came through this crisis. We came through it withs some damage, with sorrow, and withs some degree oft trauma, but we have come through it, and we are on the road to recovery. As our City Attorney said wel have now passed the survival stage, and we are looking at the rebuilding stage. We are working to make sure that everybody whol hasl been displaced byt thes storm whoi is not: ablei tol bel livingi in their home becausei it was damaged or destroyed, first we have gotten them in an emergency shelter, but now we are trying to workt to get them into temporary housing probably for 6-81 months until their homes are repaired. Iam very proud oft the efforts that have been going on. We: are going tol be working with the Housing Assistance Corporationi in trying to match properties that are available for temporary housing to families that have ar need for that housing here in' Transylvania County. We: are working family by familyt to take care of our neighbors. We: are also looking at what do we do about our businesses. Some businesses gota actual physical damage, but thei real damage is that this is the top month for our businesses to make money and stay inl business, and store owners are worried about the survival of their business. Thati is critical forj jobs and our community. Heart ofl Brevard, the Chamber, TDA, and' TEAI have relaunched Transylvania Tomorrow, the fund wel had during Covid tol help our small businesses. Wel havel been through a trauma, SO wea are making sure that we are putting in place psychological supporta and counseling services. Our faith community, our non-profits, and our county response team working in conjunction with our city staffhave alll been absolutely amazing. Ialso want toj point out how hard our City Manager worked in coordinating that effort. Yes, wel had wonderful teams out there, but he was directing those teams, andI Iknow it was a very long night. Thank you for everything that you did and thel leadership1 that you gave tot this city during this crisis. She announced that on October 21sta at 4:00 pm atl MCJCC we willl be holding another Community Conversation session aboutl how do we] pull everything together to make our community whole again. Sher noted that one oft ther most frequently asked questions over thel last few days is "what do we do with all oft the storm-damaged. stuffi in our house; can we put it out on the curbf for the city toj pick up?" Shei informed everyone that Public' Works crews. have been collecting storm damaged items and: storm debris left att the curb andt they will continue to do: SO withi no additional fees through October 18th, After that datej people can requesta a waiver untill November: 1st. 0.
