LOWNDES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MINUTES MILLAGE HEARING Thursday, September 19, 2024-8 8:30AM CALL TO ORDER COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Bill Slaughter Commissioner Scott Orenstein Commissioner Mark Wisenbaker Commissioner Clay Griner Vice Chairman Demarcus Marshall and Commissioner Joyce Evans were not present. Chairman Slaughter called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. PUBLIC HEARING - Millage Rate and briefly discussed options. ADJOURNMENT meeting at 8:36 a.m. Finance Director, Stephanie Black presented a millage presentation noting the advertised 7.84 mills Commissioner Griner made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chairman Slaughter called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. PUBLIC HEARING - Millage Rate Finance Director, Stephanie Black presented a millage presentation noting the advertised 7.84 mills and discussed options. Commissioner Orenstein asked what the increase in tax revenues were to the school boards with the growth in the digest and their proposal to not roll back all the way? Ms. Black answered she would verify that information and send it to him. Mr. Alan Watson spoke in opposition to the advertised millage increase. Mr. Watson mentioned several items on the property tax bill belonging to his parents. Chairman Slaughter stated the current year values are set as of January 1, 2024. Mr. Watson continued with complaints regarding the increase with the property tax bill. Chairman Slaughter reiterated this opposition is for the advertised millage increase and any questions related to a property tax bill could be addressed with the Board of Assessors' Office, at a later date. No one spoke ini favor of this request. ADJOURNMENT the meeting at 6:21 p.m. Commissioner Wisenbaker made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chairman Slaughter adjourned
