MINUTES CITY OF AMES, TEXAS 304 MARTIN DR. - AMES, TEXAS REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 6:00 p.m. The City Council for the City of Ames, Texas met in as special meeting in council chambers at the Ames City Hall at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Barbara Domain called the meeting to order at that time. Councilman Eddie White led the prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Mayor Domain conducted the roll call, at that time the members of the City Council who were present were: Mayor Barbara Domain, Michael Trahan, Elizabeth (Liz) Hardy, Eddie White, Alfred Freeman Jr., and Audrey Harrison. OATHS OF OFFICE Mr. Emmett Albro was sworn in as Judge for the Municipal Court of The City Of Ames, Texas. He was sworn in by Notary Goldie Williams. CITIZEN APPREARANCE citizens is attached. A list of attending APPROVAL - OF MINUTES FOR SEPEMBER 11,2023, REGULAR MEETING Itv was brought to the attention of Mayor Domain by Councilwoman Elizabeth (Liz) Hardy that there was an error on item number 5 oft the meeting minutes. The minutes show that the motion was made by Councilwoman Elizabeth (Liz) Hardy and that the second was made by Councilwoman Audrey Harrison. The second was made by Councilman Eddie White. Corrections were noted and made to the minutes. Motion was made. All were in favor. Passed unanimously. Mayor Domain - Asked if2023 should be removed from Ordinance NO. 2023-002 RATE FORI FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024. for anyone to speak on1 the item at this time. (January 1st through December 319) Marivious Allen- - Explained that due to language used in the past by the Comptroller it isre recommended that Ordinance NO. 2023-002 should remain as written. The Public Hearing ended at approximately 6:101 PM. 2.C CONSIDER. AND IF APPROPRIATE TAKE ACTION TO ADOPT ORDINANCE NO. 2023-002 OFTHE CITYCOUNCILOFTHE CITY OF AMES, TEMAS,ADOPTINGANADVANADVAUOREMTAKRATE FORI FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 AT A RATE OF $0.5000 PER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100.00) OF ASSESSED Marivious Allen provided an explanation of the actions that are required to adopt the 2023-2024 Ad Valorem tax rate. He also explained that the actual tax rate will be decreased from last year; however, the value of property will increase which will generate an increase in revenue for the VALUATION OF ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. city. The proposed tax rate is $0.50 cent per $100or2 21.37%. A Motion was made to conduct Roll Call Voting for thei following: 21.37 percent increase in the tax rate, " as reflected in Ordinance 2023-02.
