MINUTES WAYCROSS CITY COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2024-5 5:00 PM WAYCROSS CITY COMMISSION CHAMBERS CALLTOORDER: The Waycross City Commission Meeting was called to order on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 5:00 pm by Mayor James. The meeting was held in the Commission Chambers of City Hall. Present were Commissioners Diane Hopkins, Katrena Felder, Sheinita Bennett and Mayor Pro Temp, Alvin Nelson. A. The following order was passed: ALVIN NELSON V. HENRY STRICKLAND et al. Appellant Alvin Nelson appealed from two orders issued by the Superior CourtofWare County on May 2, 2024. One ofthose orders granted appellee Henry Page 1 of4 Strickland's petition challenging the results of the November 7, 2023 election for District 5 City Commissioner for Waycross,0eorgia, and scheduled a new election for November 5, 2024. The other order denied Nelson's motion to dismiss Strickland's petition forinsufficient process and insufficient service of process. We docketed Nelson's appeal of both orders Nelson has now moved for a stay of the superior court's orders pending appeal. Upon consideration of the motion and the responses from the appellees, the motion is hereby GRANTED and the orders on appeal are STAYED until on July 31, 2024. further notice from this Court.
