The Cemetery Committee meti in City Council Chambers on Thursday, September 13, 2024. President Paula Duwe called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Minutes oft the. June meeting were read. Phyllis Ellison moved to accept the minutes as read; Omar Saldibar seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. Theelection of officers was the firstitem oni the agenda. Paula stated shewas willing to serve as president of the committee once again. Omar Saldibar moved to keep the current slate of officers by acclamation. Kay Green seconded the motion. The motion carried. City Manager Prissy Aquirre reminded everyonet thatofficers can only servetwoterms! before new officers Thenext agendal item concerned; grantopportunities. This item was tabled as this committee is not ready to deal with this issue at this time. Thei third item on the agenda concerned the directory fort the Eden Cemetery. Barbie Watkins is still working on getting the records from the Eden Funeral Home. There are six years of those records. She has finished the first two years'worth of records. The Eden City Council approved the request to have thei records digitized. The first two years have been sent off for digitalization. Now Barbie has begun on the next two years of records from the funeral home. This process is quite time-consuming. When Barbie finishes these, they will be digitized, and she will begin on the final two years of records. Thefourth agenda item wasthecoding ofthe markers to identify the different sections of the cemetery. This item can only be addressed after all the are elected. cemetery records have been digitalized. The fifth agenda item was addressed by Paula Duwe. She requested thata blurb be placed in the Eden Echo oronthel Edenwebsite to encourage people who have relatives buried in' the Eden Cemetery to upgrade their personal plots with current flowers. This upgrade will improve the cemetery's ppearanceintimelortne Eden Fall Fest on September 28. Prissy stated she smakingresidents: of! Eden aware of this need with transparency and getting Omar suggested that a sign be posted ati the cemetery that would require anotherfuneral home bringingin a body to be buried to contacti the City before the burial can take place. No action was taken on this suggestion The final item on the agenda was to discuss when our next meetingwould occur.According to the by-laws we do not have to meet every month. With Barbie working sO diligently to get the cemetery records in order, we cannot doalotwithout thoser records.
