Receive staff report; and 2. Review options for the Caretaker position presented by the Arena Committee. FISCAL IMPACT: the caretaker/host position. BACKGROUND: No fiscal impact at this time. Future fiscal impact will be determined by the final agreement for The City has had several onsite Howard Park caretakers in the past who provided basic security, a deterrence to unwanted activity, and performed park maintenance. At one time the caretaker performed a majority of the work within Howard Park, including mowing, weed abatement, etc. The most recent arena caretaker left the City in June of2023. The City of] Ione Public Works has been maintaining the arena since that time. Daily tasks include ground work at the arena, including watering and grooming, weed eating around the arena for fire mitigation, cleaning up after horses of daily arena users, routine inspection and maintenance of arena equipment, and collecting fees from fee drop box and many others other tasks. Public Works does not have the staff to cover the arena full time but has been working the ground once a week, collecting day Staff brought preliminary recommendations from the Ad-Hoc Arena Committee to the 8.27.24 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission. Parks and Recreation wanted more insight to the arena and requested aj joint meeting with the Ad-Hoc Arena Committee. The joint meeting for all areas. ride money and keeping the area clean. was held at the Ed Hughes Arena on 9.18.24. DISCUSSION: The Ad-Hoc Arena Committee is presenting ideas on the best way to run the Ed Hughes Arena. They will be addressing all aspects of running the arena including but not limited to, the caretaker position, Ad-Hoc Arena Committee involvement, City involvement and marketing. ATTACHMENTS: None
