She then turned it over to Mrs. Vandver, who explained we needed the additional time to get the financials in from the bank, allow the CPA firm to complete their tasks, and get the financials completed in time other reasons that haven'tsold previously. needed bids to see exactly what it would cost. for council to review. This also allows for an additional week between when items will be due for the agenda, and the agenda posting, giving city employees time to make sure the packets are together and completed at the same time. 8. Mayor Ford: CDL and where we are with other grants - explained we were looking at a Community Disaster Loan that would turn into a grant after 3 years if we are unable to repay. Also explained we had been awarded the grant to elevate homes and were still steadily b. Mayor Pro-Tem Danny Fruge: Roads = explained we have filled the potholes twice now, but cannot permanently fix the roads until FEMA gives their okay. Ifwe do before they finish their reviews, we were told it would be considered fixed without being able to properly see the damages, causing delays or potentially no funds; debris cleanup = has been completed. FEMA funds, through Jefferson County, helped with the clean up of the city. DRC, the trash company contracted to clean up from the ditches for citizens, has completed, but we are working to see if TxDot will do one more pass. Otherwise, any debris still left will be up to the homeowner to take care of. Councilman Pride: Possible sales tax increase on next election ballot; introduction and discussion on a formal recovery plan with a possible workshop date for public input; introduction and discussion of a 5- year plan for Bevil Oaks with a possible workshop date for public input; a discussion on how to move forward with the park & playground equipment, and explained to the citizens once again (as it has been explained in both Council Meetings and Newsletters) that the land counts as our contribution for the TWPD grant, meaning we will purchase the equipment and pay for it up front, but then the reviewing other potential grants. TWPD will repay us for those funds. 9. Councilman Fruge - DD6 update - Councilman Fruge informed everyone that DD6 has started the ditch by City Hall. Iwill be sending out a card before next meeting stating anyone wanting some of this dirt will need to come down to City Hall and fill out a form. They will then be grouped by areas, pending the area is not too wet. A form must be signed stating DD6 or the City will not be responsible for any driveways or property. Upon completion of the project, we will then start on community developments park. 12.Comments from Council: a. Councilman Andrews = Update on school changes = We had a fantastic success Tuesday night thanks to Martha Vautrot and all the volunteers. We collected right at $2,500. As of today, we have filed with the TEA. The next step is TEA will issue a letter to BISD giving them 30 days to answer the petition. More than likely, BISD will make a motion to dismiss. TEA will then start fresh and we will have the opportunity to enter evidence we may not have had at the time of the original hearings. Possible hearing date could be November or December. The attorney feels we have a really good case. What it could boil down to is BISD having an expert witness stating losing our tax dollars will bankrupt them, and we will have to have one showing it wouldn't. This expert witness will cost us more money on top of the $30,000 to the attorney. After further discussion, this thing could go on fora while, and we need your continued support. Right now we have b.
