HISISHOm CITY OF THOMASTON TAX PUBLIC HEARING OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL AUGUST 20, 2024-6:30P.M. CITY COUNCIL MEETING ROOM ON THE MAIN FLOOR THOMASTON-UPSON GOVERNMENT COMPLEX Minutes A property tax increase public hearing before the Thomaston Mayor and City Council was held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 6:30pm on the main floor of the Thomaston-Upson Government Complex in the City County meeting room. This meeting was open to the public and advertised. Attendance: Mayor John David "J.D." Stallings Councilmember - Lakeitha Reeves (District 1)- Came in late at 6:34pm Councilmember - JeffMiddlebrooks (District 2) Councimember - Don Greathouse (District4 4) City Manager - Russell Thompson Assistant City Manager- - Lonnie Joyce Economic Development Director - Tayl lor Smith Building Official - John Baxter Editor in Chief & General Manager for The Upson Beacon News- Bridge Turner General Manager of] Fun 101.1 FM Radio - Dave Piper Councilmember - Ryan Tucker (District 3) - Not Present City Clerk - Oasis Nichols Mayor Pro Tem / Councilmember- Doug Head (At Large) - Not Present (See sign in sheet attached) Mayor Stallings opened the public hearing at 6:30pm. Mr. Thompson went over the millage rate and the annual increase totals. He also covered the tax digest, as well as various discrepancies that hel has found. (See attached work sheet that was passed out.). Mr. Brandon Creamer stood and spoke against this tax increase. Mr. Todd Willis stood and stated that he would like to request the vote be put off until the tax Mr. Ken Whaley stood and spoke against the tax increase stating that he believes the taxes are being raised due to new pickle ball courts to be built as well as the new fire station. Mr. Cooter Waller stood and spoke against this tax increase asking, "What am I getting out oft this assessors can be addressed for the discrepancies. taxi increase?" and' "Why won't the city. just cut services?" Mrs. April Bunn stood and spoke against the increase. And Mr. Malcum Neal spoke out against the tax increase as well. *The sign in sheet and the audio recording of this meeting is available to the public upon request. * Adjournment Result: The meeting was adjourned at 7:48pm.
