Jamie Carpenter and seconded David Strait, this request Practical Preservation submitted a response to the RFQ for preparation of the National Register of Historical Places nomination for Valley Furnace- Old Iron Furnace in the amount of $5,000.00. The project was awarded $3,600.00 in grant funds. 3/0 Nothing to report for the Barbour County Sheriff's Department. Barbour OEM/911 reported on recent and upcoming conterences/training. Corey Brandon commented on a successful Barbour County Fair and hei felt planning efforts prior to the fair was beneficial. They have key communication improvements to work on for next year. They discussed tablet top exercises and mock drills. A Code Walker drill was held at Broaddus Hospital. During the after-action review, input from first responder agencies and communication A1 tour was taken underground at Leer South. They are planning a tour for dispatchers SO they can seet the environment and have a better understanding ift they receive emergency calls. improvements were discussed and will be evaluated. The Animal Control report was reviewed as presented. Commissioner Cvechko reported that Delegate Chris Phillips requested funds from the State Legislature for Tacy, Mt. Liberty and Union Community Centers for building improvements; each were awarded $3,000.00. Funds for Tacy and Mt. Liberty were passed through the County Commission while Union Community was direct. The three checks will be delivered by Commissioner Cvechko. BOOK 28 PAGE 381 September1 16,2022 Page 3 A question arose with the list of poll workers presented by the County Clerk's office. Derick Spencer pointed out that the Republican Executive Committee submitted nominations that were not included on the initial list by the Clerk's office. Discussion was held. After review of both the County Clerk poll worker and alternate list and the Republican Executive Committee nominations, appointments were made and approved on a motion by David Strait, seconded by Commissioner Cvechko discussed the Region VI Workforce meeting she attended and shared a list of local business participating in the Region' VI training programs. She commented that Tracey Kennedy has been invited to several meetings and more businesses are participating. The status of the Barbour County Recycling Center was discussed and it seems to be going well. Amendment 2 was discussed. The amendment will be on the ballot in November and if passed, will give the WV State Legislature authority over property taxes which are currently protected in the constitution for local ad public services. The West Virginia Center on Budget and Policyhas offered toj prepare county specific presentations. Discussion was held and decided to reach out Susie Cvechko. 3/0 to get this scheduled.
