Madison County Board of Elections Regular /Absentee - April17,2018 Meeting Minutes The Madison County Board of Elections met on Tuesday, April 17,2018 at 9:00 A.M. in the Board of Elections Conference Room. In attendance: Jerry Wallin, Chair; Dyatt Smathers, Vice Chair; Sandra Tolley, Secretary; Ray Lewis, Member; Kathy Ray, Director; Wade Gahagan, Deputy Director; and three (3) members oft the public. Call to Order Chair Wallin called the meeting to order at 9:00. A.M. Agenda Vice Chair Smathers made a motion: To approve the agenda. MemberLewis seconded the motion, and the motion carried unanimously. Approval ofMinutes Vice Chair Smathers made a motion: To approve the March 14, 2018 meeting minutes as presented. Member Lewis seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Chair's and Members' Reports Chair Wallin introduced Secretary Tolley as the fourth board member and thanked her for her service. He also announced that early voting begins Thursday, April 19"h, and that early voting is growing in Member Lewis commented that it was nice to have all the uncertainty settled regarding board member Vice Chair Smathers welcomed Secretary Tolley to the board. He commended the office staff on the poll worker search and the recruitment of student poll worker assistants at the high schools. Chair Wallin commented on technology in elections and the difficulties that it poses forj poll worker popularity among the voters. composition. recruitment and retention. Director's Report The Director reported on the March 31, 2018 budget revenues and expenditures. The Director updated the board regarding upcoming conferences in July and August 2018. Ad citizen commented that she appreciated hearing the absentee application approval/denial process. She requested that the seating arrangement for meetings be addressed so that all board of elections members and staffa are facing the public. Two citizens complimented the job performance oft the director and deputy director. A citizen asked how this election's absentee flow compared to other elections. A citizen extended a special invitation to a League of Women Voters candidate forum.
