Madison County Board of Elections Meeting Minutes-Special Called Session  February 24, 2021 at 3 P.M.  The Madison County Board of Elections held an in-person meeting on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The meeting was held at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Break Room in Marshall, NC and had been properly noticed as required by law. Attending the meeting: Jerry Wallin, Chair; Ray Lewis, Secretary; Brian Ball, Member; Sandra Tolley, Member; Dyatt Smathers, Member; and Jake Ray, Deputy Director; no members of the public were present.  Call to Order:  Chair Wallin called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.  Business before the Board:  Chair Wallin announced that he had received notilication dated February 22, 2021 from Dr. Kathy Ray, Director of Elections in Madison County, of her intention to retire from the  position as Director effective May 1, 2021.  Motion to go into closed session to discuss personnel (JW,DS) motion Carried $5,0).  Returned to open session 3:461 p.m.  Motion, Seconded (JW, DS) and carried 5,0) to appoint Jacob Ray as Director of the  Madison County Board of Elections effective May 1,2021.  Motion, Seconded JW, BB) and carried $5,0) to appoint a sub-committee to recommend a compensation package for the Director of Elections consisting of Chair Wallin and  Member Smathers.    Chair announced that the next regularly scheduled meeting ofthe Board will be on March 17"hat 3:00j p.m. at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Break Room and ask Deputy Director Ray to secure the site and properly notice the venue change as required by law.
