MINUTES CALLT TOORDER Chair Wallin called the meeting of the Madison County Board of Elections to order at 9:00 a.m. In attendance were Jerry Wallin, Chair; Ray Lewis, Secretary; Member Dyatt Smathers; Member Brian Ball (present on Friday November 18 when the meeting was resumed) County Attorney Donny Laws; Jacob Ray, Director and one member of the public. Minutes Approval: Members Reports: Member Smathers read Elizabeth Madorin's obituary: Elizabeth Marie Madorin, 52, of Mars Hill, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11th, 2022 at home. She had been recently diagnosed with advanced liver disease and inoperable cancer, but she was surrounded by love, even in her final moments. Elizabeth was able to say goodbye to several family members: her mother and father, Phyllis and Fred Madorin of Harrisburg, NC and her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jeanne Madorin of Harrisburg, NC. Elizabeth is also survived by her brother Alvin "Pat" Madorin (and partner Carol Crowell) of Orchard Park, NY. Elizabeth was immensely proud of the nephews she left behind: David (and wife She left behind her "family of choice", Shawna and Jay Bryce, of Mars Hill, NC; Rebekah Byrd and Alex Elizabeth spent her entire life in public service. In college, she worked for YMCA and Latchkey services. Then she worked as a Spanish teacher in Missouri and in North Carolina. Upon moving to Western North Carolina, she worked at a private school for girls followed by a grant-sponsored position at the Madison County Public Libraries. Her most recent service to the public was as the Deputy Director of Elizabeth had al keen sense of humor and was known for regaling classrooms and offices alike with her infamous "dad jokes." She loved making people laugh and found quiet ways to share her heart with In keeping with Elizabeth's final wishes, no funeral services will be held. Director's Report: The Director requested that the board allow him to open sealed voted ballots from the Sandy Mush precinct and retrieve a ballot marked "Provisional." Member Smathers made a motion to allow the Motion (DS, JW) to conduct a manual edit to subtract the totals from the retrieved provisional ballot and director to do sO and Chair Wallin seconded the motion. Voted ballots were sealed and secured for storage. The board closed the DS200 tabulators, and the director imported and uploaded the supplemental and provisional results. Sluder's filed protest.
