August 2021 RE: Request to replace Flag Pole in Ephrata Cemetery Dear Members of the Ephrata City Council; This letter is written to request permission to replace the flag pole at the Ephrata Cemetery podium. The members oft The American Legion, Post 28, and American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 28, would like to donate a 25' Aluminum Flag Pole with Internal Halyard. The flag pole is described on the enclosed page from American Legion Flag &Emblem Sales. We would also like to dedicate the flag pole to Rita Mayrant, long time citizen and community minded volunteer, with a small plaque on the pole. Over the years the current flag pole has been vandalized and flags stolen. By having a sturdy flag pole with internal halyard we can better protect the flag of our nation from desecration. And, with approximately 460 veterans buried in the Ephrata Cemetery, we feel it is only proper the flag under which they served be able to always fly over their resting places. One oft the ways Rita Mayrant served was to give ofherselfin assistance to our military, veterans, and their families in addition to volunteering many other ways in Ephrata plus she was a long time school nurse - therefore, we feel While the purchase and dedication of the flag pole is a joint decision of both The American Legion, Post 28 and American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 28, the coordinators for this project is ourselves - Mike and Jane Montaney. Our contact information is written below. We ask for you to please consider this it'sappropriate to dedicate the flag pole to Rita. request; and, would gladly attend any meeting needed to help with your decision.
