Final Budget Review Before Public Hearing Commissioners Richard Atkinson, Scott Kincaid, Kathy Ramsey, Dixie Abernathy, and Mayor Wills stated that there were schedule conflicts this year regarding budget workshop meetings and proposed having a retreat next year to plan details in advance. He also suggested a mid-year strategy meeting to discuss short-term and long-term goals. 1. Road Conditions: The Town allocates $45,000 annually for street repairs, which covers minor projects and does not include repaving. The current annual debt for the Timberland repaving project is $237,372, with Powell Bill revenue contributing $163,050 and $75,000 from the general fund. An updated pavement condition study is needed, ideally by fall 2024, to better inform future budgets. 2. Fire lersonnel Compensation: Part-time fire personnel's pay is proposed to increase from $16.61 to $18.00 per hourin the budget. However, Gaston County plans to increase the rate to $20.00 per hour. Mr. Ollis recommended reallocating Town Manager Ollis outlined three main topics for discussion: funds from the Eastern Goat Island Bridge, ADA Playground, and Parks & Recreation budget to cover the additional $37,720 needed for this increase. 3.
