RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES Borough ofNewville February 20, 2024 Attendance: Ed Sinkovitz (Borough Council), Matthew Kump (Chairperson), Sandy Brymesser (Events Coordinator), Liz Knouse, Danyel Arnold, Steve Brymesser (visitor) and Stephen Melton The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 p.m. followed by aj prayer led by Matthew K. Action: Danyel Arnold and Liz Knouse were elected as members of the Recreation Committee. Action: Stephen Melton was elected Secretary. Action: Liz Knouse was elected as Treasurer. Zion Lutheran leaving the balance at $4,873.19. Committee or ifhei is ex officio. Summer Recreation Report: Financial Report: Balance $4,573.19 (as of 1/31/24). It was noted the Committee received $300 from Matthew will ask the Borough if Ed Sinkovitz is allowed to vote at meetings of the Recreation Events Coordinator Salary for Sandy B. is $1,600/year. The salary of the summer recreation Plan for 2024: The program will run for two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) starting June 4 and ending August 15, 2024 (with no meetings the week ofJuly 4): 9 weeks for ai total of 18 meetings. The typical cost for a 2/day summer program is $8,000 for 20 meetings/summer. We hope to find Pastor Steve will ask Big Spring Presbyterian Church to underwrite part oft the summer program. Pastor Steve will approach the Interchurch Council to ask if churches would be willing to Grants: Liz K., will do more research into grants. Due to the Borough's financial situation we may be Fundraising: Ed S. will contact Joe Spencer (717-226-1668) about providing a chicken barbecue meal for $5/halfa chicken on May 4, 2024. We would be responsible for purchasing applesauce, beans, etc. We would sell the meal for $12/each. We (Sandy) are checking with Kevin Yost who oversees the ballfield to see if there is availability on May 4 for the sale. Ideally, there would be ball games that Clearances: We will require paid staff and regular volunteers to pass necessary clearances. In addition, assistant is yet tol be determined by the Borough.
